Anybody heard what he's up to now? I see on his Wikipedia page no updates since he was canned. As hot of a commodity as he was, I'm kind of surprised he still hasn't been picked up by some team. It's been four months now since he was officially let go, and really about 6 months since it seemed like common knowledge he was going. Don't the really hot GM's tend to land on their feet somewhere else relatively quickly? I wonder if this speaks to the cloud he left under. He got fired under practically ideal conditions for a GM (team finally recovered from years of irrelevance, highly regarded coach, awesome deep-pocket owner). I wonder if maybe other teams figure that if he got fired from that situation there's some fire to all the smoke that came out at the time. Or maybe he really did annoy a lot of people.
Was it really the ideal situation? The Tom Penn firing had happened months before and there had been a storm cloud over him from that point on. He will get on somewhere, but my guess is it won't be as GM.
now I dont know how real this info is.. but I have a friend who manages a wells fargo and he syas he has a friend who works for some PR firm or something where KP is now working. They do stuff for bigtime companies like Nike etc. Not sure how real it is though.
This, and also Pritchard may not want just any job. Even if, say, the Grizzlies were looking for a GM and offered it to Pritchard, there's no guarantee he'd take it.
Is it still easy to post nonsense on Wikipedia? I'd love it if someone would post that he's retired from basketball and is now a potato farmer in Idaho.
Regardless of whether or not Pritchard did a great, fair, or miserable job as GM, I think everyone can agree that the guy had a pretty shitty work environment for much of last season. From his owner publicly shunning and shaming him at games, to leaks from somebody to Woj about what a douche Pritchard is/was, to being fired on draft day, fer fuck's sake. I imagine Pritchard is getting some much needed rest and relaxation, he is being paid $800k by the Blazers this year, and if he has a desire to get back into the NBA, I'll bet it will be in a situation that he is very comfortable with, and very familiar to the people within that organization. Somewhere like San Antonio would not surprise me in an advisory role, with the potential to move up when Buford/Pop finally have had enough.
I think he's probably heading up the Blazers' suit against David Stern and the Memphis Grizzlies over the Darius Miles fiasco. He's also waiting for the exodus of key Blazers employees that is inevitable given his departure from the franchise. Ed O.
Funny you mention that, cause I got a text from my cousin a few weeks ago who works for said PR firm, and he said both Pritchard and Penn are working there. I tried to press him for more info but he wouldn't disclose anything other than they are working there, and are a lot of fun to work with.
lol crazy. So that adds a little confirmation in my mind. He didnt mention Penn though But he might not have wanted to press too much either from the guy who told him. I cant remember the first name he mentioned of the guy who works there though. He did mention something about the guy working in a cubicle next ot KP which I found kinda funny.
After outing him from the Blazers, Larry Miller must of hooked him up with a job from one of his connections at Nike. A man with some decency I see. Nice.
Yup, he definitely has the right to be selective. I doubt a GM vacancy gets filled without the team checking with him first.
Supposedly, people have been seeing Penn and Pritchard hanging around Portland still...like at restaurants and sports bars.
If true, Pritchard doesn't particularly surprise me. He's close friends with Born and Buchanan, who are still with the team. He may be spending time with them, still.
