Carlyle Garrick from Castro Valley HS, CA. He's 6'3" and 215. He's listed as a WR/S but I believe Oregon sees him as a safety. There is little info on him because of two serious knee injuries but Chip and crew were high on him. --I have a lot of confidence in our staff to recognize and get talent. LaMichael James is an example of an athlete who got little attention from Pac schools. James was ranked at 40 and a three star athlete out of HS - and I don't believe he received any other Pac 10 offers.
I think the Ducks really need a big, fast, physical receiver. Maehl is a senior, and he's only 6'1/180. I would love to get a Pat Johnson or a Sammie Parker.
In 2009 we received commits from Gaines and Jackson. Both are WR's that are listed at over 6'2" and over 200 pounds. Gaines is 205 and has a listed 4.40 time. Jackson is 200 and runs 4.5 40. Both were 4 star recruits. Those dudes received offers from Oklahoma, Nebraska, etc. Not sure of their status now... The same year Nick Cole, WR, 6'3" and 190 was also a commit. A sweet commit for the 2011 year is Sumler, out of Miami. The dude is a WR and a bit small, but runs a 4.33 40 and received offers from just about everyone! Pair his speed with the bigger nasties above, and Oregon is set at WR for the coming years.
Is Jackson even coming back though? He was deemed academically ineligible and there were some rumblings about him not coming back. Maybe going the JUCO route.
It would be nice to get some big physical guys. I like the guys we have now, but watching a guy like Julio Jones makes me want one of those "throw it up and let them get it" guys.
Parker wasn't really big and physical. He was a speed demon. I'd love another receiver like him. I can see Keenan Lowe of Jesuit fitting that Sammie Parker style. We'll have big, physical recievers like usual with a great Tight End core. I'm excited to see Curtis White play.
Yeah, I remember Sammie wasn't big and physical.... I only threw his name out because I miss having a deep threat like Parker.... but it didn't really make sense in that post haha
a little different as Wade didnt meet eligibility requirements to even be admitted to UO IIRC. Jackson was admitted and Redshirted last year. So hopefully its just a "Get your grades up this year" deal.
I'd love to have another Jaison Williams type receiver...as long as they can CATCH THE BALL! He had more heartbreaking drops than any other receiver in Oregon history
Sumler is nasty. But still, Jerrard Randall is going to be a phenom (QB). Did you see his stats last game? Something like 20-23 with over 400 yds (passing) and some TDs and then 70 or so on the ground. Freak Athlete. People question his arm, but damn... Both those recruits are out of Florida. Both 4 stars. Talk about a national presence.
I know, the fact that great recruits out of Florida can't find a place to suit them in that football rich state says a lot about Oregon's program.
well not signed. That cant be done till LOI day. Which scares me with kids coming from all the way across Country. I think I saw that Sumler will take more visits even though he is a strong verbal.
Great point. It also says a little bit about how unimportant losing annual games in LA are for recruiting. It might hurt a tad, but the fact Oregon keeps landing very good players from Texas and Florida will make it easier for them to overcome the new schedule
A friend of mine who is a designer out at NIKE says they have gotten a bunch of positive feedback about the uniforms. The athletic department in Eugene told them they have been recieving a lot of calls from kids wanting to play for them. When asked how they heard about the UofO a ton are saying they just know them as the squad out west with the kick ass uni's!
