What do you love to do? If you can make a career of what you love, you'll be happy.

For example, if you like to blow shit up, you could become a terrorist or a suicide bomber.

I love basketball and football.. And I love being an atheist. Not really things to build on.. I do like cooking and cooking shows and stuff, but I don't really want to do that... I absolutely HATE writing essays. So much so that I really want to try to find something that doesn't require a ton of that for schooling.

Ok, so assuming that you aren't spectacularly gifted athletically, there are still some things you could do, coaching and journalism being the most obvious. Note, however, that both are very hard to break into and pay quite poorly unless you are at the top of the profession. More lucrative might be sports medicine, sports marketing, or the business side of sports.

I think since you don't like writing, there's not much you can do with that, although if you are extremely charismatic, you could perhaps lead the sheeple into the new age of reason.

I'm in the same boat as you and i'm in college. I want to do something with history, but definitely not teaching.

Barfo had good suggestions. Have you considered teaching physical education at High School level?

Not sure how atheism can turn into a career, those who write so-called "atheist books" like Richard Dawkins did so after establishing very successful careers in other fields. And since you are not a writer, working for the freethought magazines is not an option.

Do you like photography? Sports photography is an interesting field, but competitive.

santeesioux, have you considered archeology? Paleontology?

You talk about hating essays; are you a numbers guy? There's always a need for accountants.

Clearly you need to pursue a career in civil war reenactments.

But everyone wants to be an accountant so 100 applicants all apply for every entry-level job.

You hate essays and like to write sloppy and want to make decent pay for a couple years of schooling, and have a ton of opening to get into when you qualify, go into Nursing. You'll lose your manhood and won't be able to post here any longer, but hey, it's a job.

Follow the path you find most stimulating. There's no worse feeling than having your grades suffer in college classes because you just don't care for a subject. Not to mention the trouble you'll go through in finding a decent-paying job in a field you're dispassionate about. Most important these days is, whatever you do, NETWORK! It's way too hard to get a job without contacts.

I was wondering the same thing. It seems like a bit of a contradiction, or paradox, or something. What do atheists do when they congregate? Get together to talk about how bad believing in god is for the world?

Anyhow, I say become a blogger. It may not pay well, but you get to wear pajamas all day.

I did the whole pimp thing, it's overrated. If I could go back and do it over, I would have accepted that basketball scholarship at the U of O!
