Congratulations to Darron! He is completely blowing away any and all expectations that people had in the preseason. The other thing I got from this list was no Jake Locker http://blog.daveyobrien.org/2010/10/25/2010-davey-obrien-award-semifinalists-announced/
Incredible honor for the first year starting SO. I love the Tenn and Stanford games where he's played from behind with such composure. I have a feeling the DT is the kind of player that us fans will still be talking about in ten years. Congrats to him.
I think that's possible. Hell, if they somehow get to the NC and win it, Thomas and crew will go down in UO history. I think he could definitely be up there with the Akili's and the Harringtons.
As a Sophomore this guy is playing near the same level as a Senior Dennis Dixon. Thomas' stats as a Sophomore through first 7 games COMP % - 60.9 TD'S - 17 INT's - 5 YARDS - 1539 Rush Yards -269 Rush TD'S - 2 Dixon's stats as a Senior through first 7 games. COMP % - 72% TD'S - 16 INT's - 3 YARDS - 1728 Rush Yards - 416 Rush TD'S - 7 Thomas' completion percentage has been at 70 percent for the last three games as well and his running will get better once he gets more experienced with the read option.
He's not quite the rusher that Dixon was/is, but he's a damn good passer. I actually think Costa might be a better runner than Thomas, but he's not as capable as a passer.
The scariest thing about it all (For opposing teams) Is what Dixon became under Chip Kelly was with one Summer and 3/4 of a season under him. Chip Kelly is on year 3 with Thomas and Still probably has 2 more years with him after this. Thomas is ahead of where Dixon was as a Sophomore.
If he stays until his eligibility is up, he may end up as the best QB Oregon has ever had (seriously). He is that good. Definitely will be in the Heisman talk in the coming years.
Thomas' stats as a Sophomore through first 8 games COMP % - 60.6 TD'S - 21 INT's - 6 YARDS - 1827 Rush Yards -311 Rush TD'S - 2 Dixon's stats as a Senior through first 8 games. COMP % - 68% TD'S - 16 INT's - 3 YARDS - 1885 Rush Yards - 492 Rush TD'S - 8
So definitely a better runner, but the passing is verrrrrry similar. I really like Thomas. I think he's a damn good QB.
I love Thomas' game. He's only a sophomore with not much game time experience under his belt, but he doesn't get rattled. Granted, Chips offense isn't the type thats going to make a quarterback throw lame duck passes. This teams core is so young, a dynasty type situation is in the realm of possibility.
http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2010&rpt=IA_playerpasseff&site=org&div=IA&dest=O Check this out. This has thomas as the 13th best QB in the country, but he has thrown the most TDs of all the top 13! I think he is def. a top 10 QB in the country. No joke.
I was watching Thomas last night and thinking Dixon! He just has the same feel, though their games are actually a bit different.
Thomas' stats as a Sophomore through first 9 games COMP % - 62.3% TD'S - 22 INT's - 6 YARDS - 2070 YPA - 8.4 Rush Yards -400 Rush TD'S - 4 Dixon's stats as a Senior through first 9 games. COMP % - 67.8% TD'S - 20 INT's - 3 YARDS - 2074 YPA - 8.4 Rush Yards - 549 Rush TD'S - 8 Dixon went down in the 10th game. We may have him for two more years baby!
