Considering most horror movie sequals are dreadful, this might be the best i have seen of them. Its like the godfather 2 of horror movies. Better then then first. Very clever and disturbing. Go see this with a group of people.
It was god awful as far as technical film-making goes but probably the scariest movie I've ever seen. Never been scared by a movie before but after seeing Paranormal Activity my heart would start pounding every time my house made a creak or someone flicked a lightswitch on outside my room. Acting is terrible and the guy who made the movie had never done anything with film or even taken any film classes. He shot it at his own house and the actor who played the leading male role had to do a lot of the camera work since he was the only one with experience operating a camera. Pretty interesting that he thought up this idea for a movie and was able to draw out such a powerful response with no experience making movies on an insanely low budget. I saw it in theaters though so it may have had more of a profound effect. Everyone was pretty into it. Based off the commercials PA2 looks like the same deal but with a family instead of a couple. Figured it was just a money grab though as I recall a reading that the guy who made Paranormal Activity wasn't involved with it. The ending to the first one sucked though.
The second one was A TON better than the first one. If the first one scared you, you'll be completely freaked out by this one. The acting is way better and it's scary. I recommend seeing it.
Please... the first one was fucking terrible. The only good thing about that movie was that it only took 11k to make. That's a scary small amount of money for a hit movie like that. Insane profit. I watched it last night and the thing that I can't stand about most horror movies is that they ask you to suspend TOO MUCH disbelief. I think most movies ask you to suspend some disbelief, but horror movies ask you to basically throw all common sense and logic out the window. Take Paranormal Activity for example... There is no fucking way they would have stayed in that house that long. No way. I don't care what the psychic said. No way. You'd get the fuck out and hit the road if you had to. Second thing, I don't see the boyfriend being that arrogant and stupid after things started to get really serious. Doors opening and closing? Sure. Keys moving to a different spot? Okay. Girl being possessed and not remembering where she was or what happened? Maybe. Once they found the picture in the attic or the whole Ouija board incident, I think that would be enough for me. I'd be scared out of my mind, and my girlfriend being torn out of bed or stabbing herself would have just meant that I would throw her over my should and gtfo. I just don't buy this kind of shit. He's running around talking shit to the demon, acting all tough, charging into the dark like he's invincible. I was actually happy when he died at the end. He was a moron. I felt bad for the girl though. Wasn't her fault that she was dating an idiot.
I would doubt it. Just think "Blair Witch Project". That's the same principle that the movie is based on. Random video footage that creates a storyline. I think this one is a different family, different footage, etc. The first one was based on a couple living together, so I doubt they are at all related.
Possibly. There is an intriguing storyline about the son of the head ghost taking over for the head ghost after his older brother, and then father, die. Then, the ghost tries to do business in Cuba, but his idiot brother of a ghost starts to ruin it, and once Castro's ghost takes over Cuba in a revolution, the entire ghost family has to get the fuck out of Havana. Then, they end up at this random family's house, and that's where PA2 begins. I, for one, would have been lost without the back story.
Thanks BG. I'll go rent the first. I'm hearing so many great things about Part 2. Thanks for the recommendation Mixum. I'm sold.
ok let me break down the 2nd without giving much away. first PA2 is a prequel based on katies sister and it explains why the demon attacked her sister. katie is in the new movie becaus ethe new movie happened 30 days before the first. and let me tell you.... this ending will freak you the f@@###k out. It blows away PA1 and im telling you.... there is some really scary scenes in this movie. not just night but day. it is amazingly clever the way the two are tied together. and if you thought the BF in part 1 was a moron.... wait till you meet dad in part 2 lol
and yes 150% you need to see PA1 to understand anything about PA2. it would ruin teh whole point of seeing the movies if you watch them backwards. also for those seeing PA1 pay close attention to the quija board scene in the middle. also play attention when katie talks about here sister.
No doubt you need to totally suspend belief for the first one. I expected that going in though and, like I said, I saw it in a packed theater so I think the atmosphere made it a lot easier to get into it. That said, you could make that argument for almost any horror movie. Hence people screaming "don't go through the door you dumb broad!" but you know shes going to do it anyway because its a movie. The plot sucked but IMO it did a great job making intense scenes and it had some fresh ideas at least. There was plenty to pick apart about the movie after when discussing it with people but I've never been affected by any horror movies so I thought this one was excellent purely based off of the fact that it got a reaction out of me. It definitely got too overboard plot-wise toward the end and like I said i fuggin HATED that ending but loved the fact that I was actually gripping my seat and freaked out about bumps in the night lol.
the idea of a demon haunting a house is very possible. its somewhat believable. is there far fetched scenes? of course but the movie at least in a sense could happen to a certain degree. therefore the concept is even scarier. i mean thats just freaky shit... taping yourself while you sleep to try and capture noises you hear in the dark. we all have heard noises in the house over night that we cant explain.
