The two quotes that caught my eye:

    1) Reguarding AJ........... "He is scrappy. Defensively, he gets after it. I wouldn’t be afraid to put him on (an opposing) starting point guard. He’s not going to back down. And it looks natural as far as him pushing the ball on offense.” (That is the first thing I noticed about him- he looks very comfortable out there.)

    2) McMillan also plans to play Roy, Matthews and Fernandez together at times.
I’m excited about playing more minutes with Rudy,” Roy says. “We didn’t get to it much last year.”

(I think this will be interesting to watch, because they seldom do play together.)

Of course Roy would want to play with Rudy more. Anything to get away from that ballhog Andre Miller!

I never thought Roy and Rudy played well together his rookie season. It seemed like Roy didn't look for him much.

Or maybe he knows that Rudy has the ability to spread the floor when he's hitting 3's.

Okay, here's the part I don't get. Except for the teams with the 3 worst records, ANY team in the lottery has a chance of getting the 4th pick, correct? This means that if New Orleans gets into the lottery, they have a chance of getting the 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th pick, even if they finish with the best record among all lottery teams.

If this is the case, isn't Portland taking a huge gamble in the Bayless trade? We could go 2 seasons, or more, without getting any player in return for Bayless.

Gamble? Sure. Huge gamble? Does not seem like it to me. Especially as I do not think the pick will ever be for this team - but will be used as an asset for a trade closer to the trade deadline.

There is always a risk/reward scenario - and with a team bursting at the seams with guards that deserve playing time - this seemed like a rather low risk/reward situation.

Wasn't it just a year or two ago when one of the lottery teams jumped from the top of the lottery to the #4 pick? Anybody recall which team it was? All I know is that it's very possible.

I believe I agree (after an initial "Yuck!" vote). I think there's a good chance Bayless becomes a quality starter--and he's got a shot to be an all-star--but the Blazers have confidence in Patty Mills as a prospect, too, and I can see why the team prefers Mills + a quality first rounder to Bayless.

No, not correct. You've got it backwards. Only the top 3 spots are up for grabs. You can't draw the 4th pick. The only way to get the 4th pick is to have the 4th worst record or be one of the teams with the 3 worst records.

Hmmm. Aren't the top 3 picks reserved for the 3 worst teams, but with no guarantee of the order?

I thought the Roy/LA draft we had the worst record and were supposed to get the #1 pick, I think we fell to 4th.

No. The top 3 picks are the only ones up for grabs. Then, record determines the rest. So for example, the team with the worst record could at worst be 4th, because 3 teams with better records leapfrogged them in the lottery.

    Interesting picture there, Foulzila. LOL...

    About the Bayless pick.
We got the 16th for Martel. I think that 16th for Bayless would be somewhat disappointing but still OK, anything less would mean the gamble wasn't worth it (not saying there isn't a chance we'll get #20 and draft another Batum-like steal, that'll make it worth it, but getting #20, I think, is less than what Cho has in mind). Anything higher than 16 (can't get higher than 7, unfortunately) would make me happy.

Roy wants to play with Rudy more because Rudy looks to set up his teammates for highlight plays.

Actually I believe that Roy just wants to play with the guys who will hit their open shots when the defense collapses on him. When you have been relying on Martell Webster and Travis Outlaw for the previous 5 seasons, I am sure it is a breath of fresh air to pass to Rudy and Mathews.

I wonder if Rudy is as excited to play alongside Roy as vice versa. I somehow doubt it.
