Oh, Baby. How long has it been since we've had a point guard like Armon Johnson? Wow. This guy is going to change the complexion of this team. I already like him more than I ever liked Bayless. If he's this good in his first NBA game, imagine his potential. Relax, everybody. Point guard is taken care of for the next decade.
Except he doesn't have a J. That will hurt us if he plays too many minutes. In spot duty he'll do just fine.
He feels like a Nate selection. Williams feels more like a KP "point guard." There's no way to prove it, but I suspect taking him was KP throwing Nate a bone.
Everything I saw in summer league and pre-season seems even better now. I still love this guy. Hope he continues to get better.
Rondo does not have a J. Andre Miller's J is not exactly a thing of beauty. If your PG can guard, controls the ball, runs the offense and can get to the basket - a jumper is not the most important thing in the world. It would be nice if he develops it, for sure.
He sure hit a nice little turn-around jumper tonight. If he can hit from 12 feet and in, that's good enough for me. Besides, he's lightening quick and he's going to draw a lot of fouls. He may get half of his points from the free-throw line.
Not to be a downer but Goran Dragic can't guard a chair. Let's not pronounce him the PGoTF just yet. Once teams realize his jumper is ehh they'll back off and then we'll see how he responds.
I'm still gonna need to see more of him in terms of creating for others to be convinced he's really a PGOTF candidate, he was more of a combo guard at Nevada IMO but we'll see how he does creating with Wes and Rudy on the 2nd team. His intensity on D was exciting, and he seems to have the quickness and handle to get into the lane to create for himself. Some of that penetration will probably be taken away when teams realize he's probably not the best deep threat but I hope he keeps it up. Definitely a more than adequate backup PG for now though.
I was going to put a caveat about Miller, but decided to just put that he'll only play spot minutes. Running the offense is very important. But he plays good defense so he's already light years ahead of Sergio in that regard. I'm just glad that he looked fearless out there in his first NBA game. That's a good sign.
Yes, it's just one game, but this guy already shows more court sense, speed, and leadership from the point than we've had in a long time. And it may not even matter if defenders "back off" him; he can get it down the court so fast that they'll just be trying to keep up with him.
From what I have seen from AJ so far, at the very least he will not stink the place playing backup PG. Anything over that is a blessing. If we are lucky - he will one day be able to be a good starter PG - but even if he can't - kid seems like he can ball.
??? I dunno, I thought suns under Gentry have improved quite a bit on defense. They're not exactly stoppers, but they hustle and contest shots. You sound like you're thinking of the D'Antoni SSOL teams.
