Last time I saw someone seeing Elephants in such a loopy way - he was on the booze...
Thanks for the link . . . notice the Blazer highlight before the one you mentioned was Roy passing to mIller for the fast break lay up.
That has nothing to do with what I am referring to. Go back and watch several of the breaks where Roy is involved. If you go back and you watch Roy, you will notice he is laboring to keep up with the pack on the break, and it seems one leg is stronger than another. You can tell because one leg is giving much more push than another in the way he runs.
The only thing I'd say is that Roy doesn't really look like a point guard... but I'm not ready to close the book on that. I thought Roy didn't a great job of playing within the offense last night. How often did we see a Roy iso? I thought most of his points came off of spot up threes or catching it, driving, and pulling up. Not a lot of one-on-one play. I loved seeing that. That's exactly how I want Roy to play.
If only Portland didn't have it's only all-star quality player they could contend for a title. Surely this is a water tight argument.
I disagree 100%. Who was the center for the Showtime Lakers, one of the greatest running teams in the history of the NBA? An old, slow Kareem who trailed the players who trailed the play up the court. Fast breaks start with defensive rebounds, steals and blocked shots. You don't need five gazelles to run consistently. You need a PG who can push the ball and two players who can run and finish. A trailer who can knock down an open shot is also nice to have. And you also need a big man who can control the defensive boards and throw an outlet pass. IF Nate wants the team to run, haviung Oden and Przybilla back to control the defensive glass will only help, not hurt, this team's ability to run the fast break. BNM
Fair enough... and I will grant you that in the past... the offense did get stagnant when Roy was carrying the team on his back... but our team sucked back then... Roy had to do that. That isn't the case now... Roy has other pieces around him and last year they seem to move the ball just fine. What worries me a little... and we saw some of it last night... is that with our starting unit teams can pack inside and we don't have the outside shooting to overcome it. Thank God Camby hit some of those top of key shots... because they would have done it all night otherwise. Roy is money... but the rest of our starters... Miller can't shoot, Batum is very streaky, Aldridge also... he is on fire or ice cold it seems. Our bench and light it up... but the question is whether the starters will dig too big of a hole before the game loosens up.
Is it just me or does it seem that Roy allows a LOT of easy lay in baskets by the opposing guards? I noticed what appeared to be almost double-digit amounts of unopposed dunks on most games I watched last year. I decided to watch for that last night, and it when I was looking for it, it really seemed like 4-5 times last night it was Roy who was letting Richardson (or whoever he was guarding at the time) just take it to the hoop uncontested. I'm not going to say that will be the downfall of the team, but it just seems like a trend that won't go away until Oden comes back and I'm not sure, but I think it is either a product of our overall defensive alignment or it's Roy.
