Am I the only crazy Homer who doesnt' want to get rid of Batum for Carmello? Carmello is a scoring machine with a bad attitude that slacks off on defense and scores at a very inefficient rate. We already have a bad perimeter defense adding Carmello would just make it worse. Personally I wouldn't like giving Carmello the 25 to 30 shots he takes a night away from some of our guys like LMA and Roy and Oden when he gets back and healthy.

I agree, and I don't think were giving up Batum at all.

I don't think anyone is talking about the Blazers trading for Melo because he pretty much won't come here so there's no reason to trade for him.

I know that, but people talk about wanting to trade for Melo so I thought i'd add my opinion to it, even if it was a little late in the discussion for it.

Well, he's a legit scoring threat. The guy can drop 30 points any given night, and that's very enticing. Right now we really don't have anyone that can score that consistently outside of Roy. We had hoped that Aldridge could be that guy, but he's really looking more like a third option on offense. Maybe Batum could be our second guy, but it's still early to tell. Melo would make the Blazers very difficult to guard, but if he won't sign an extension here, there's zero reason to trade for him.

I just don't like the amount of shots he takes to get that 30. We are one of the slowest paced teams so we shoot less then other teams but have a very efficient offense, with Melo we would have to either take shots away from Roy and Aldridge or increase our pace, and were probably not increasing out pace lol. Although I could deal with that its the fact Melo seems to not care that much about defense tell the 4th that worries me more.
But anyhow yea no way were getting him here because he doesn't want a small market teams he wants one of the big three markets, Chicago,NJ,NY. Probably LA too but I doubt they want him.

The problem with trading Batum is not just that he is a good player, but that he is a good player who fits near fucking perfect next to Roy, with his help D, ability to defend PG-PF and dead eye 3pt abilities. The last several year we have been cycling through PG's, some have sucked, but some like Miller are very good PG's. We have witnessed that playing well next to Roy is no easy task at PG, and my guess is at SF also. Switching Batum out for G. Wallace or some other potentially better SF, would risk a lot in reducing Roy's effectiveness.

For Batum to be traded, I would need for a PG to come back that I believed would be super-quality and fit well with Roy and the rest of the team. Only a few of these players exist, like Paul or Williams.

Well, if Utah keeps sucking, Williams might be a possibility. Although I doubt Utah would trade with us.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
If Utah trades Williams, they're doing a full tear-down...at which point, I kinda doubt they care about how good Portland is. They won't be competing with Portland anyway, or contending for some number of years.

I don't think they'd ever trade Williams, though, unless he was approaching the end of a deal and told them he had no/little interest in re-signing with them.

Well, he was making some comments about wanting out during the summer I think, or maybe it was last season. I'll see if I can dig them up.

There was another article last season though, I think, maybe when they traded Brewer.

I doubt Utah trades Williams unless he forces them to. But, if he does, he would be my #1 PG in the league, ahead of Paul and everyone else. But this is just a pipe dream.

If that team continues to struggle, like, sitting towards the bottom of the NW, I could see him making some real noise. I guess we'll have to see.

I know that if the get rid of Williams, they will be blowing the whole thing up, and logic would dictate that they would not care about trading inter-division. However, I wonder if the long time rivalry plus our attempted poaching of Millsap and successful poaching of Matthews would inspire them to trade with anyone-but-the-Blazers.

That would be my fear, but if we made the right offer, it would be stupid to turn it down. The question is, what would you offer for Williams and what would be too much?

    trade proposed

    Out
    Aldridge
    Batum
    Przybilla

    In
    Williams
    Hayward

This would be a shitload to give up both Batum and Aldridge for a player that was demanding out, but I think this might be what would be needed to get the job done. We would then be freaking weak at SF and PF, so I would have to think about this, but that's my first shot at it.

    First rounder from Bayless trade
    Batum
    Joel

Yeah, I'd say they would want to clear cap, get picks, and young players.

Batum, Joel, Miller, and picks might get it done.
