http://www.nba.com/celtics/news/draft-cent...otes060306.html Today the Celtics had a workout with Shelden Williams, Patrick O'Bryant, Saer Sene, and Torin Francis on their first day of bringing in bigs. Here are my thoughts on these guys: Shelden Williams I think if we decide to draft a big, he is the safest pick at 7. He would provide a great defensive presence down low and he is a scrapper. He is really a mixture of Gomes and Perk. I say Gomes because he does all the dirty work and might be undersized for his position, and I say Perk because he is strong, isn't a great offensive player but improving, and is a very good low post defender. I would not complain if I saw Shelden in green. Patrick O'Bryant Legit 7 footer that has some nice upside. He is a hard worker and uses his size down on the box. He isn't like Blount and afraid to get underneath the basket, box out his man, and grab the rebound. He has a chance to be a solid post option in the near future if he plays his cards right. He is very long, like a 7 foot Tayshaun Prince. I would also not complain if we got O'Bryant somehow. Saer Sene He is talked up to be like Samuel Dalembert with a lot of potential, but I say the Celtics should stay away from Sene if they decide to trade down. Why? Because he has only been playing organized basketball for 3 years, will have a tough time adjusting to the English language, and does not have much meat on his bones. He is slinder, but athletic. I have not really seen him play more than 1 game and a highlight mix, but from what I saw, he is going to have a tough time adjusting to the NBA and the English language. With Doc up in your face, you gotta know what he's sayin right? lol So what are your thoughts on these 3 big men?
If I were a Celts fan (used to be), the player that would interest me the most would be O'Bryant. Williams is a tough, defensive-minded player with offensive skills as well playing at PF/C. He is undersized but still is tough on offense and defense. Boston already has Al Jefferson, who is young and will become a great player down in the paint. He's slowly developing his skills, and has the same attributes as Williams. Sene has a HUGE wingspan, but will be a big project. His offensive skills are raw, and cant really hit a jumpshot anywhere. It would take a long time to fully develop his skills and make him reach his potential. O'Bryant is NBA ready, and you can tell that by looking at his physique. He just has everything you look for in a C, and even though him being picked at #7 would be a bit too early for the Cs, it'd still be worth it. He also has great footwork and a lot of upside.

Big Al is not a good defender by any means and needs the most work defending on the box. Al is a very skilled post player offensively, the exact opposite of Williams. Shelden is a very good defender but needs more work on the offensive end.
Of the 3, I'd take O'Bryant. IMO in the NBA, Shelden will be a powerforward, and we have plenty of those. We need a center, and O'Bryant is one of the best centers in this draft. If we decide to go the big man route, I think we should take O'Bryant.
I am going to agree and say that Williams is not going to be a center for long amounts of time in the NBA. He will be a power forward in the NBA, as he is only 6'8, and compared to most of the other center's in the league that is just way to small. I am going to agree with the rest and say that O'Bryant is the best pick of these big men, because of his size and ability to be a true center down low.
too bad thomas wont work out for non-top 3 teams, but i really dont like any of these guys long term. if were gonna draft a big guy, he should actually be good. id take sene as a second rounder, but do we have one? nope
I feel like Thomas's agent might hinder his career, too bad if that's what happens. I love O'Bryant, he has a great work ethic and seems like he could be a great NBA player. Gomes and O'Bryant in our frontcourt looks really good, throw pierce in that mix...
i think once thomas is drafted someone will tell him to change his agent, if thomas falls in the draft u cant tell me a team wont take him cuz he didnt work outo'bryant is alright, id switch him with lafrentz gladly but i dont want someone taking up time from perk
yeah I don't want playing time taken away from Perk either, unfortunately he might not even be healthy enough to play at the beginning of next year and I doubt dwayne jones and raef can handle the load of being solid big men for us...I'd say O'Bryant is probably our best option for a big man
i don't think we'll take a big man, period. But if we were to trade our pick to say, New York, who said they wanted to trade for a better pick, then i would take Sene. 7'8" wingspan, lots of potential, stick him in the D-League. If he works out, great, if he doesn't, so be it.

I also agree that O'Bryant would be a nice pick. Perk will be ready by next year though, Perk and Ainge have both said so. But even then, a legit 7'0'' true center would be great for this team, and O'Bryant is just that.

I believe it. Could you imagine Hinrich, Gordon, Deng, Thomas, and Chandler with Nocioni, Duhon, Sweetney off the bench in 2-3 years?
