Well, if Roy needs to coast in the preseason to put up numbers like he has over the first three games of the season, I'm completely fine with it.
Are you really on here at 4:00 AM your time?! But I agree. LaMarcus has looked terrible to me so far. 79 games left though.
I'd like to see Aldridge shoot a little higher percentage, but the areas where I've always had my biggest beefs with his game are defense and rebounding and so far I think he's done a pretty decent job at both, all things considered.
Not at all. You apparently still don't even get the basic point, after all of this. Let me say it again, one more time, and very slowly, just for your benefit . . . What I care about (and what I've been saying throughout) is the EFFORT you give in the preseason. If you play hard and play together, that will usually translate into wins, but if it doesn't, I don't have a problem with it. All I want to see is genuine effort, rather than coasting.
Why give the same effort for games that don't count? Let's say, hypothetically, that Roy decides to play balls out in the preseason. That usually entails his crazy drives into the lane. Would you be happy if Roy was giving his all, drove into the lane, and tore an ACL in a meaningless preseason game?
A sad memory, but this kind of reminds me of how LT rarely played during the preseason for the Chargers. I thought it didn't affect his superstar play over the years, but now I realize.... THAT'S WHY WE DIDN'T WIN THE SUPERBOWL! Damn you, LT and Damn you, Roy!!! When can we make Shooter our coach?
Exactly. There was a coach - can't remember who - who had a famous saying - "Don't confuse effort with results." Very rarely extreme effort will make you something you are not - ie, Mark Madsen being on an NBA team, let alone for multiple seasons - but results are all that matter. Effort is a factor in results, but it is not even the primary one. Talent is.
I thought this thread was done!!!!! LA has looked a little off. Shooting % is bad, but I could care less if he puts #'s up like he did last night!
John Wooden is probably who you're thinking of though the exact quote went ..."don't confuse activity with achievement" http://zev.lacounty.gov/blog/john-wooden-remembered STOMP
