Or would boozer be enough? I dont think, as good as Carlos is that he would be enough to make us elite. I used to be of the camp that we would not be "that much better" with Melo than we are with Deng. I have changed my mind. Deng cannot create his own shot. We know that. We need someone in the game especially in the 4th quarter other than just Rose that can take charge. Melo can do that! Boozer can too! The question is do we wait for Boozer to come back and hope a SG steps up in the meantime to help Rose, or do we trade for Melo now? Of course the trick is to get Denver to take Deng. If what I am reading is true, they dont want just Deng, or dont even want Deng.
Boozer would help, Boozer plus Melo will make me think we might really get somewhere. I don't think there's going to be any convincing the Nuggets to take on Deng. Getting benched for the 4th quarter last night probably didn't help much, but it didn't help either I bet. I think we should start by thinking about whether there are any teams out there that would take Deng at his contract without giving anything up for him. Let alone a good player coming back. The Cavs and Raptors still have those big trade exceptions, and they seem reasonable places to start. If we traded Deng to the Cavs for, say, a future 1st, we could turn around and make a trade with the Nuggets that gets them under the luxury tax and a bunch of picks.
Luol Deng is only as good as the offense, and it's really bad right now. The offense will improve as the months go by. This is the worst he will be for us. I feel like the discussion of Deng around here is really manic. It's not like he somehow forgot to shoot threes. Give the team two months, and then we will be able to evaluate where Deng fits in here. The discussion was never whether the Bulls should trade Deng for 'Melo. That was always a yes. The discussion was whether we should give up both Deng and Noah for Melo. And the answer from just about everyone was maybe.
I'd love to get Melo, but i'm still not sold on Melo for Noah. Plus, Deng would be nowhere near enough. I wish we could trade Korver + Deng for Melo and theyd be dumb enough to take it.
I have long said that I believe Deng to Toronto makes a lot of sense If Omer can develop by the trade deadline then Omer and Deng for Toronto's trade exception is a deal I would consider if that trade exception could then be flipped with James Johnson , the Charlotte pick and future firsts from us for Carmelo Anthony .....also assuming that James Johnson continues to develop impressively A lot of ifs and buts in all of that but we would have Noah Boozer Anthony Brewer ( assuming health ) Rose Gibson Korver Watson There's your core 8 man rotation I don't think luxury tax is a consideration as clearly that team is a true contender
Trust me Jerry, Toronto doesn't want Deng. They're rebuilding around the idea of high draft picks + young talent + small salaries. Deng doesn't fit that description at all.
Manic sells. We need a Chicago Bulls' themed rally to restore sanity among its fan base Keep hitting on this point, SST. Deng will be as good as the offense, and right now the offense is not there. He'll get better, and will be very good. Brewer is the worry. If he can't defend and can't go to the rim....yikes.
just for clarfication, I did not make this thread out of panic over Luols last two games. You brought up his poor play. I have been watching the lakers and Miami as well early in the season. We have one person on offense that can create his own shot in the starting five. At the max we have two on the second team(watson, JJ) We will not win a championship with just 3 people that can create, and JJ sometimes doesn't even play.
I got it right away, TBF. You are asking if Rose and complementary players is enough. Even asking if Rose and Boozer and complementary players is enough. We have to see Boozer play to know for sure he's capable of being a #1 option with Rose off the floor. It may turn out that he's something like Deng - the scheme of the offense has to consider how to set him up for scoring opportunities. This is in contrast with a guy like Rose or a guy like Melo, where you get him the ball pretty much anywhere on the court and they can create their own scoring opportunity.
Yah I know , but , they need to put Bargnani back at the 4 and give him a real Center ( Asik ) and one of the best rebounding 3's in the league in Deng Whether they like it or not they're stuck with Bargnani and they may as well give him someone complementary like Deng who can rebound , defend and cut inside while Bargnani is largely a stretch big All I'm saying is I've long said that Deng is actually a good fit for what they're stuck with in Bargnani
Jesus Christ, the Raptors look ugly. I hope they end up with Perry Jones (or whoever the #1 prospect by season's end is). The fans in Toronto are one of the best in the league.
In all likelihood, I think Boozer is somewhere between Rose and Deng. While he's never been the #1 option on an offense, I've never seen anything from him to suggest that would be good for him. That said, Utah's scheme on offense was pretty clearly run through him in a way you couldn't for Deng. Boozer is certainly more capable of demanding a double-team.
I don't agree with your assessment. Mark Jackson kept saying the Bulls needed another Alpha scorer on offense to be a contender and I just think that's wrong. Think about the Bulls championship teams, especially the first three-peat before Kukoc arrived. The Bulls had Jordan, of course, and Pippen was a pretty good scorer but not quite what he would become later in his career. At that time he was a blisteringly fast point-forward and the best defender in the history of the game. Grant was always an elevated role player on offense. That team never went hurting for scoring because it created shots off its defense all game long (and well Jordan was reasonably decent at offense ). There are all kinds of different ways to become a contender. Against Oklahoma, the Bulls needed another scorer to win. But our offense and defense haven't kicked in yet. Our role players don't know their roles and there is a still a lot of movement happening in terms of internal development. I look at this team like a wine that hasn't aged yet. We really can't be sure what this team needs at this juncture besides more talent overall. So, if you think Noah and Deng for 'Melo is a talent upgrade then I say do it. If you think 'Melo for Noah and Deng is not a talent upgrade, but merely a move that is necessary to fill wholes in the line up (i.e. "Rose needs help") then I say wait two months to see what we actually have.
Thunder, I think you're underestimating just how good MJ was. I've seen quite a few measures that suggest he was basically like having two "normal" superstars at once during his best years.
Yeah, but I also don't expect the Bulls to be as good as the first championship team. All I'm saying is that they they could be contenders, depending on how the team shapes out, without a second scorer who can make buckets without an offense. I don't think they can be as good as the 91-92 Bulls, with or without Anthony.
