Oh yeah, this would also mean Oregon's turnout was pretty fucking good, right?

Big problem is that population isn't the same as voters. There are kids and felons and the disinterested who aren't registered, and then many who register don't vote.

As of now (or a little while ago) there had been 160K votes counted in Mult., and that was said to be 60% of the total. So there will be about 265K total votes from Mult. Co. 70% of them will be for Kitz, so of the 105K remaining to be counted, roughly 74K for Kitz, 31K for Duds, a margin of about 43K. Duds is currently ahead by 20K.

Actually I got the current vote totals from each county and projected the remaining vote based on the % already counted (that is, assuming that the remaining votes per county were distributed between the candidates the same way as those that had already been counted).

That gave me an extra 145K for Kitz and an extra 112K for Duds, so Kitz wins by about 15K votes. But that's pretty darn close.

I just don't understand why people continue to vote democrat in Oregon. Is it because the Republican candidates suck THAT bad, or is it because people just blindly vote the party line? It doesn't make sense to me. Our state is in shambles. We've been under Democrat control for.... what..... 20+ years? We've had a Dem governor for at least the last sixteen years. Whatever the case, it's not working. We need some change. We need some fucking balance. It's clear the people who are running this state don't have any fucking clue what they're doing. I don't care if they're Rep or Dem. They suck. Period.

Are you kidding? Sizemore? Dudley? Yeah, they suck THAT bad.

Because of the national economy. Most other states are in shambles too.

And the last time we had a republican governor? Unemployment in OR was higher than it is today.

And your evidence for this is? [I'll admit, I'm being argumentative here - if you'd said they were great I'd argue that they sucked. But still, you should explain why you think they have no clue.]

Oregon's unemployment rate has been higher than the national average for two decades now, but progressive leadership can't possibly be to blame. No, that certainly had nothing to do with the decimation of the economies in the rural counties across the state during the 90s either. The problem is we are seen as a bastion of liberalism, so we keep getting these young liberals moving to Portland from out of state, skewing the state's votes. The most radical people I know at work have all moved here within the last 6 years.

Although we've had progressive governors during that period, the Oregon House was republican-controlled from 1990-2006, and the Senate was republican-controlled 1994-2002. And, as I said, back when we had a Republican governor the last time? Unemployment in Oregon was higher than it is today.

    Not much, no.

Doesn't seem like a problem, unless of course you don't like young liberals.

Wow, good luck California with Governor Moonbeam. That victory speech was a string of non-sequiors.

I'm not going to check your math, but looking at the county reporting percentages, I'm inclined to agree with your conclusion: Dr. Kitzhaber, Medicine Governor.

I've written that one off. He needed to be much further ahead before the King County Election Commission had a chance to work its magic.

It's Mike Bennet that sticks in my craw. He had his kids walking around with campaign signs during Halloween. That guy is a tool, but he's going to win.

It's a good thing so much of the state wants Kitzhaber.

Well, you have a point there - but then that's no reason to replace one set with another set.
