One of my high school classmates works for wieden and kennedy and is partly responsible for this ad. I thought they did a nice job with it.
You probably shouldn't respond to critiques that you're a me-first asshole with an ad that implies that you're a me-first asshole. Or maybe I'm just reading this the wrong way.
I liked it... but at the same time... he pokes fun at everyone who disagrees with his choice. He doesn't define whether he is a role model or not. Agoo hit the nail on the head.... but honestly it may be better for Nike in ways that he has a little bad boy pub. They definitely are embracing it.
"What should I do?" I'm guessing that taking shots at Jordan and Barkley, not to mention continuing the narcissistic, I-skirt-the-rules-but-it's-ok-b/c-I'm-King-James revisionist history is NOT what you should do. "Listen to my friends? But they're my friends!" My mom asked me long ago: if your friends told you to jump off of a bridge, would you?
I cant believe he took a dig at Barkley and Jordan....fuck him ...unless of course he wants to be a Laker in 3 years...
Fuck! This commercial bothers me. If I'm watching TV and it comes on I will get up and go out of my way to turn the channel.
I don't have a problem with it. Message seems to be, "Don't let other people define you. Define yourself." I can't argue with that.
But, Lebron has said so many stupid things throughout the process. A commercial that some money hungry Nike people make isn't going to sway my opinion of a guy who thinks most basketball fans are racist. I'm not sure there's ever been a bigger diva in the NBA.
