agreed, they are recruiting him as a WR as are all of the programs he might sign with. Maybe I'm overlooking something obvious, but I can't think of the last time a Duck QB started every game in a season. If you're the backup QB its a question of when not if you'll see the field. I've heard no talk of changing Randall Bennett or Mariota's positions. Marcus M. wants to be a QB. Dude has several other offers from D1 schools as a QB. Do you think he's aware that he's "definitely going to change to WR"? lots of things can happen and change the depth chart... grades, injury, early opting for the draft etc... Better to be too deep in talent at the most important position in the game. STOMP
yeah I was going by scout on those. Still interesting that Thurmond only got offers from Oregon, San Diego St, and Wyoming.
From what I heard from Duckterritory, Mariota is being looked at as a WR. I doubt Randall changes just something to think of. Also never said Bennett is going to change positions.
that might be another position he could be able to play, but he is coming to the Ducks as a QB. He has QB offers from several other D1 programs... again, athletically he could probably play another position, but thats not the spot that they've told him they want him for. Changing a guys position from QB to something else is probably a good way to have them transfer if they have options Chip has stated that he wants at least 1 QB per class and that he might take up to 3 in this one. Shit happens and guys wash out or get injured... so CK wants quality depth STOMP
Completely agree about having depth. But from what I've heard Mariota is mainly being looked at as a WR here though. We'll know more about it next year. Keeping guys on the bench also causes them to transfer.
Ducks Territory (your source) has Marcus listed as a 4 star QB recruit. Rivals & Scout have him as a solely as a QB. The O and RG haven't made any mention of him as a potential Duck WR that I've caught. By his quotes, dude wants and expects to play QB in college. He has several bigtime programs that have offered him as a QB so he has options. I don't need to wait until next year to know that your "definitely changing positions" claim doesn't pass the sniff test STOMP
All recruiting sites have him listed as a QB. Many recruiting sites have players listed as a position coming in but it's not always the position they become in college. My source came from Justin, the creator of Duckterritory, and he posted in the message board that Mariota is potentially being looked at as a WR. If he wants and expects to play QB in college, then his best bet to do that would not be here. This is all speculation, and I never sold it as anything more than that. Why do you seem to be stuck on this? The only big time programs that offered Mariota were Washington, Memphis, and Oregon. http://oregon.scout.com/a.z?s=128&p=8&c=1&nid=4852063 EDIT: Actually I did sell it more than that I apologize. Yes, my speculation that Mariota will play WR here is hearsay. I looked back at my old post and I said "he definitely will play WR here."
so the visit list for Saturday has been pared down a little, but most of the marquee is intact. The number in parentheses after the state is the overall prospect ranking according to rivals... so (for example) George Farmer is thought to be the 6th best HS Senior regardless of position. 5* WR George Farmer, CA (6) 4* WR Devon Blackmon, CA (20) 4* ATH Marquis Lee, CA (39) 4* OL Andre Yruretagoyena, AZ (Commit) (85) 4* DE/DT Todd Barr CA (109) 4* LB/DE Jason Gibson, CA (151) 3* DT Delvon Simmons, PA 3* DE Branden Jackson, PA I can't recall a visit weekend with this sort of deep star power. Farmer Lee and Gibson are from the same HS as are the two Pennsylvania kids. The weather is supposed to hold for the game... fun times! STOMP
There are attractive girls at every school except (of course) Washington. Beauty is skin deep, but ugly cuts to the core I read an article about Sr. WR Drew Davis recently where he said he really wasn't seriously considering the Ducks until he visited. This seems typical... usually when you read about what compelled a prospect to commit to Oregon they speak of it feeling like it was the right spot for them. This is probably a combination of the town, university, and program. If a kid wants to be an engineer, Oregon probably isn't the spot for them. Same goes if they want flashy nightclubs and a big exciting city. But the University has many solid education opportunities, Eugene is warm college town goodness, and the #1 ranked program in the land is looking to add a lucky few to star on televised Saturdays. Hopefully they continue to find the right guys who will excel regardless of how many stars they have STOMP
Having visited friends who were going to Washington several times, I agree hot girls are few and far between. Unless of course Asian is your thing.
Rivals just came out with an updated top 100 for the 2011 recruiting class. http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-2640 George Farmer came in at #4 Marquise Lee at #19 Blackmon at #46 Lyerla at #87 Yruretagoyena at #88 Nice, very nice!
Besides Yruretagoyena, which ones do you honestly think will choose Oregon? I think Lyerla will, and given Blackmon's twitter response, him as well. Hopefully the new basketball court is a hit with Farmer and Lee. I know I don't like it
Blackmon definitely seems impressed, but he's young. Young people are easily impressionable. Hopefully he doesn't have the same response when he visits the next school. I wonder what Farmer thought.
