Roy said his surgically-repaired right knee is not necessarily bothering him, but also said it’s “something I have to continue to deal with.’’

“I wouldn’t say that. The knee is kind of what it is,’’ Roy said. “I’ve been doing things off the court to strengthen it and I continue to work with (trainer) Jay (Jensen) and those guys, and we are still trying to figure out an answer for it. It’s something I have to continue to deal with.

I hope it will get better if the minutes go down,’’ Roy said. “That’s the plan: Get the minutes down, hopefully be more explosive, and everything works out.’’

You fail to mention this is his third knee surgery and if not mistake, already top 5 in MPG. It would be smart to get his minutes down. I don't understand how you cannot acknowledge this?

Do you know if that for a fact? (That doesn't right)

For all concerned there might be something wrong with Roy (and got mocked) . . . well when the star player is asking for less minutes and acknowledges he doesn't have the explosion he used to have, there was in fact a valid cause for concern.

I pretty much assumed Roy would miss about 20 games this year. So move along. Nothing to see here.

I think giving Roy less minutes is a great idea. There really isn't any reason to play him as many minutes as Nate plays him with Rudy, Matthews and even Batum on the roster. Roy is the one guy that has capable backups. Roy plays basically 39 minutes per game. You could easliy lower that to 35 and give Batum those minutes, or split them between Batum and either Rudy or Matthews.

The problem with cutting Roy's minutes is that our offense is "designed" to get him the ball on the perimeter and for him to create. That is 4 less minutes a night that we would go into a scoring drought without Roy bailing the offense out with a tough shot

They showed a graphic that Roy has played the 2nd most minutes in the NBA behind Rudy Gay. Aldridge was right behind him.

Thanks . . . but I don't think Roy is top 5 in MPG. OKC has two players alone (Durant and Green) who average more minutes a game than Roy. I'm pretty sure there are others out there as well. But Blazers have played a more games so I see my confusion.

Yeah, not top 5 in MPG, but he's currently 5th in minutes played and he'll be 1st after tonight because no one else on the list plays tonight. We've had a brutal early season schedule with the games played, a 4 game road trip, and some good competition.

There's no getting around the fact that 39-40 minutes a night for Roy is way too much. He really should be around 35-36 tops and this franchise needs to have enough discipline to enforce this no matter the consequences in the short term. They've got another 5 years of guaranteed money locked up in this guy and grinding him to dust just to eek out a couple of wins in November strikes me as fairly near sighted when there are supposedly capable backups behind him.

I just looked. Roy is 14th overall in MPG, and 3rd or 4th (depending on if you think Monta Ellis is a SG) in MPG for SG's

Whoops. I was going off the graphic and forgot it was total minutes and not MPG. Regardless, he has been playing a lot of minutes and cutting down some is not a bad idea at all. Especially since it is still early in the season.

    Exactly what it is.

He doesn't average the most MPG but he's played the 2nd amount of total minutes in the NBA. That was the Raptors game I think.

I believe he was top 5 in minutes played until the Laker game. I didn't watch the 4th, but I believe they didn't play him much, and with this few games played, it would have skewed the results rather quickly.

I kow he didn't play in the Laker game, but technically the minutes he was out on the court does count as minutes played. :D
