1 Year + 1 day ago . . . remember this game? B-Roy had 2 points in 26 minutes. Blazers crushed the Wolves, but all the talk was about Brandon. He couldn't get to the basket, he looked slow and out of sync. This was at the beginning of the Miller-Blake-Roy starting together and Roy playing SF. Last November was arguably Roy's worst month as a pro, at least aesthetically (not statistically). People were saying the same things they are today. He's pouting (last year b/c of Miller & being forced to play SF). He's not healthy. He got old overnight. The league has figured him out. It's true - he couldn't get to the basket, showed no explosiveness, kept getting his shot blocked, and LOOKED awful. Then December came and he was in the discussion for player of the month.

Here's the thing - Roy doesn't work out in the offseason. He lets his body heal (see link below). We saw this last year. He came into camp at 205 (7-10 lbs under is normal weight) and admitted he stayed out of the weight room. He STARTED lifting again when the season started. So he played/worked his body back into shape and his athletic ability returned. Roy isn't lazy. He feels his body needs to rest/heal in the summer. We all know the play we saw from him last December is too much to ask from him for 82+ games. He just can't handle the physical pounding. It is what it is. The fans want to win every game, especially against the Lakers. But I'd rather lose some games in November if it means Brandon is healthy and back to being "B-Roy" in April. Wouldn't you?

I'm giving Brandon the benefit of the doubt, largely because of what I saw last year. I don't believe he's lost that extra gear, but there's two factors at work here. 1) He's not in great shape physically. 2) He's obviously decided that (at least early in the season) he's not going to the basket as much - so that he can stay healthy. I think a lot of people who are writing him off will be eating crow in the next couple of months.

You bring up good points! I can't beleive this post was just skipped over and fell to the bottom of the page. Roy will snap out of this, get his game together and fans around here who have been bitching constantly will act like it never happened and they knew all along.

Roy may have not worked out in the offseason going into last year but he certainly did this year. All you heard was he was in the weight room getting ready for this year.
