Even though MF has improved it's still at least a 6-9 month recovery, likely longer. If Roy has MF he's done for the season and that is how it should be to give him a chance for full recovery.

This is going to sound heartless and cold, but everybody should hope and pray that the next CBA includes non-guaranteed contracts -- retroactive non-guaranteed contracts.

If I'm looking into my crystal ball, I honestly see us as being a crude facsimile of the Houston Rockets by the end of the year; a team full of role-players who are quality pros, but with no stars, that is unless one of the young guys (probably Nic) blows up with an increased role.

This is a bit of a non-sequitor. Why?

Just going off on various tangents and exacerbating the whole Roy situation with meaningless one sentence epithets. They don't give you news or analysis on that show, but rather, just bullshit comments from two shockjocks.

They went after the Blazer doctors, and marketing personnel for "hiding" the Roy knee thing. And they cited HIPAA a whole bunch of times, and brought about a sky is falling attitude to the whole thing.

Thinking about this leaves me perplexed. I don't know how the team can pull themselves out of this one, if the injury is serious. Normally you bank on good players wanting to come to your team because of the talent already there for a chance to win when you are building yourself up. But there is a good chance the bulk of that talent for Portland, is going to be gone. That makes it tough to bring in free agents. At the same time, the team is going to win enough games to probably won't get a decent draft pick. The draft pick we got for Bayless is probably going to be in the late 20's at the rate New Orleans is winning.

The only positive I can think about this is that if Roy gets hurt, we get to find out if the team runs more without him. Rudy will finally get a chance to prove he can play in the NBA at a high level. That is about it.

I think the chances of that are exactly zero.

There is a precedent, though, for making a one-time salary dump that doesn't affect your luxury tax. Roy would still get all his money, but it would give the team more flexibility. I can see that happening again.

You can see us dumping Roy?

Gimme a break. He might be hurt beyond repair (hope not), but he can still drop 20 on any given night.

I hate playing message board MD, but unless there are new test results that show something that hadn't been seen before, it's my understanding that Roy's knee injuries have been meniscus tears. Microfracture surgery isn't used for meniscus issues. It's used for damage to the articular cartilage that covers the end of the femur.

So can most players in the league. It's the one's that score at least 20 points every night that you want.

Yeah, if his knee looks really bad I can see us dumping him, then re-signing him to a reasonable contract for what he's actually worth. And I think he'd go along with it, although I suppose he could always Boozer us over and go to some other team. But he doesn't really seem like the kind of guy who would do that.

If his knee is pretty creaky, he might still be able to put up those 20 points. But he'll give up 25 on the other end because he just doesn't have the speed to contain guys.

And how efficient will those 20 points be? Have you noticed that this year he's shooting at 40%?

We can make the playoffs with Roy and Oden, but we're certainly not a contender. We'll most likely be 1 and out.

I am merely hoping for the best. That B-Roy and Oden will be healthy soon. If they both need surgery we may as well flush this season down the drain.

I disagree. Portland will still be there with the teams battling for 7th and 8th. You seem to forget the one strength that Nate McMillan has as a coach. He is a awesome motivator to get his teams to play hard even when the injuries pile up.

Yeah, that's great, but not for the money he's making. You want to pay a guy 80+ million to be a role player?
