NCAA football betting players are eagerly awaiting the BCS standings that come out each week on Sunday night or Monday morning, and the gap is narrowing near the top of the standings as Boise State is gaining ground on TCU, who struggled this week on two counts while Boise State continued to roll.

The No.3 Horned Frogs may have been feeling themselves a little too much after their 47-7 destruction of Utah on the road last week, and they quickly found themselves down 14-0 at home to San Diego State, who isn’t that bad of a team. The Horned Frogs picked themselves up and rattled off 37 unanswered points, but the Aztecs wouldn’t give up before finally falling 40-35 at Amon Carter Stadium, where the Horned Frogs have won 20 in a row. If San Diego State would have pulled this off, it would have been a bigger surprise than finding out Toronto was on top of the NHL standings.

Meanwhile, the No.4 Broncos romped to a 52-14 win in Idaho in a game they controlled from the beginning. Boise State has now beaten their last six opponents by 29 points or more, and they never take any teams for granted: whether they’re playing a team like Virginia Tech or Idaho, the Broncos come out prepared and ready to go from the start of the game, and quarterback Kellen Moore is probably third in the current Heisman race behind Auburn’s Cam Newton and Oregon’s LaMichael James.

So, how are the Horned Frogs still ahead of Boise State? It was obvious that Utah wasn’t that great of a win after they were destroyed 28-3 at Notre Dame this weekend, and we’re curious to see how much weight their 45-10 win over Baylor holds after the Bears have dropped two in a row. The two have a mutual opponent, Oregon State, who Boise State beat by 13 points at home while the Horned Frogs beat the Beavers by nine points on a neutral field, which was Cowboys Stadium in Texas, obviously favoring TCU. Meanwhile, the Broncos went to a neutral field¸ which was FedEx Field, much closer to Virginia Tech. The Broncos beat the Hokies, who have fought their way back into the top 20, 33-30 in a game that shows they can play with anyone in the country.

One other thing for football betting players to look at is history: the Broncos beat TCU 17-10 in last year’s Fiesta Bowl, which was the best of the BCS bowls last year, and Boise State came into the season ahead of TCU, so at what point did TCU move ahead of them? Was it Virginia Tech losing to a FCS team? And if Utah got beaten so handily against a Notre Dame that isn’t that good, how come TCU stays ahead of Boise State? There will be a lot of questions to be answered this month, whether you plan on making a bet or not.
