I've been thinking about what may happen to Roy. The nearest comparison I can make is he'll go from being a Wade to being a Rip Hamilton. That's still not bad. I have always looked at our team like the Pistons earlier this decade. They weren't dominant at any one position with a superstar; they were five fingers that formed a fist. I think we need to alter the load to the frontcourt. Batum, Aldridge and Oden is potentially the best frontline in basketball in a couple of years. If Roy can shoot jumpers to keep the defense from sagging and we get ourselves a Greg Anthony/Derek Fisher-like PG (great outside shot, excellent D and a decent distributor), we'll be more than fine.
I hope you are right about Roy and I think that is a"best case" scenario, his accumulated damage with the bone on bone seems to be starting to rear it's ugly head.
I think Steve Smith or Vince Carter would be a better comparison. Rip was pretty quick off those screens. Can Roy be that quick? Or, better yet, will he actually run off screens?
I see your "better yet will he run off screens" and I'll raise you an "Will we ever run an offense where players set screens for someone who is off the ball?"
true... but then when Brandon went down they said Nate- "Hey we have a capable 2 Guard to fill his shoes... lets just have Rudy Iso it up top.. that should work the sime right???.... right Monty???" Monty Williams - *thinks to himself* "Anyone, just anyone PLEASE hire me so I dont get associated with this dude anymore. Dean DeMopolus- "I just cant wait to coach the Clippers... that is all.
in all seriousness though, I still dont understand why we started doing that screen stuff for rudy less. Even if he isnt an option, I want the D to have to pay attention to him.
I liked the comparison someone else made earlier, to Vince Carter. Roy wasn't as spectacular as a young VC, but he also relied on his ability to beat any defender and get to the hoop. Like Roy, Carter could always shoot...he just wasn't a shooting specialist. Carter has evolved his game into more of a jump shooter and still makes plays for others. If Roy can undergo a similar transformation (and he goes in with at least similar jump shooting proficiency and superior passing skills), he'll still be a major asset to the team.
I was actually thinking of Bernard King except he was absurdly athletic before he blew out both knees and completely retooled his game. B-Roy doesn't have nearly the same learning curve as King did.
Someone else mention King in a different thread....was that you? I thought it was a pretty good comparison then too.
Wow, a little butt hurt because your boy LA keeps showing us how soft he is night in and night out? November 10th, Horford signed a 5 year 60 million deal. Aldridge is at 5 years 65 million. 5 millions dollars in savings over the course of the contract, despite Horford clearly being a better player. I suggest next time doing your homework before looking like a flaming douche to all of us.
I doubt it. I've always been partial to PF's who play the position like it was meant to be played. Horford is shooting almost 65% from the field this year and is one of the best defensive big men in the game. The guy can be the anchor of a defense.
When I'd informed Zags a month ago that his point about contracts didn't hold water in the thread I linked, I wasn't being condescending. Multiple posters then chimed in confirming the same thing. Then he comes back in this thread a month later claiming the same nonsense that everyone corrected him on and I'm not aloud to say something? And pot meet kettle on your condescending callout. While I missed Al resigning (I was on vaca for a week in Oregon surrounding the UCLA game) at least I checked the S2 salary link before I posted this morning before work. Feel free to check the link yourself... it's at the top of this page and there is no mention of Al's new deal. Do you really think a guess at what a guy might resign for is something makes me look bad or is something I'd have an iota of pride about? The main point I was making is that dude is still on his rookie deal so it's apples to oranges to hold LA's 2nd deal up in comparison. Next year the two guys contracts will be more or less the same except that AH will be base year and basically untradable. Al's new deal isn't "a lot more reasonable than LMA's" which was pretty obviously the whole point of my response. why not correct the OP who was wrong a month ago and then even more wrong today? STOMP
