Even the sports talk shows here are going nuts about Roy "being done", etc. etc. I've never seen a fanbase lose their collective shit as quickly as Blazers fans when confronted by negative news. Here's an idea. How about letting the anti-inflammatory meds Roy has started to take do their job, rest him up for a few weeks, and then see what happens? That's pretty much what Chris Paul has to do, as you stated, and I see people here and listen to people on the radio wanting to trade for Paul. It's insane. 1080theFan has an orthopedic surgeon on right now. Shit, he just said that if there are large areas with bone on bone, then he may have a career-ending surgery.
Wait, what? Give away the best player we've had so far this year, PLUS a draft pick, to pick up a Steve Blake-type? Are you nuts? I don't think Miller's untouchable, but I don't want to pay people to take him. (Incidentally, I also don't think he's that highly desired by other teams. His lack of perimeter shooting and mediocre defense are drawbacks for teams wanting to contend. You have to put him on a team with lots of guys who can receive lobs and lots of jump shooters. Like, well, the Blazers.)
The thing is that Roy having a career ending surgery versus playing hobbled up on his big contract will be the best possible scenario if he cannot play at a level he has played before. We'll be free of his contract and can make a free agent acquisition.
That is just so awesome the transition from the first half to the second half of your post, and how "It's insane" is kind of the pivot for it all happening. Epic. Obviously, depressing as hell. Yet oddly humorous.
It's just heartbreaking to visualize in my head that wicked crossover/step back shot of his, or his amazing and effortless drives at the rim, and think it may not ever happen again.
If Roy is going to be iffy, perhaps make a hard push at Carmello Anthony? Nic Batum + some may get it done and will be worth it if Mello would be willing to resign with Portland. He wants to go to NY though.
Yeah, I realized it as I was typing it. Intentionally ironic, because I just got gobsmacked with Roy's reality, and mine as a fan. I fully expected Dr. Rask to mention all of these options that hadn't been discussed.. The most realistic one he talked about was Roy "taking up golf", as I heard the interview. Fuuuuuuucccccccccckkkkkk.
heres what you do.... - find a way to trade for devin harris - draft a banger at PF - wait and see what you have in johnson - resign greg at reasonable rate - enter any talks where a team is willing to move a star player regardless of position.
I'd waste a lot of time typing "^this", for each bullet point, but I'll just say it once. This is a pretty sensible plan ... god only knows how viable or realistic any of it is.
1. Trade Roy, Oden, Joel as their value will only continue to decline between now and their next injuries. 2. Bring back Ha, Zach and Sergio. 3. Bring back KP. 4. Retire.
Make Roy coach and sign Oden to max deal and hope to FUCKALL that he can still walk for the first few years of the contract. Maybe freelance as the GM for a wheelchair league and trade myself some of my own players for the other league. Then I might shoot myself in the face.
I think we have two options... either make a trade to compensate for the loss of Roy, or refit the team. I'm not saying blow it up, because I think we still have some viable talent on this team, but without Roy I think we're set back at least a season or two. Give guys like Batum and Johnson some time to mature, and then make another push in two seasons. This is why I think adding Iggy would be good because I think he still fits our window. He's only 26.
1. Does Mediocre Man really have to say what he would do first? Then I would promote Kaleb to interim coach. Send a message to the team that status quo is not good enough. 2. Call Denver and NY and get involved in a deal ASAP.http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2doqd96. Portland sends 1 first to Denver also. 3. Send Miller, Joel, Babbitt and my other first to Philly for Iggy and Hawes. 4. Send Marcus Camby and Cunningham to OKC for Jeff Green and Ibaka and White. 5. Instruct Kaleb to run the shit out of every team and press the entire night. Funnel players to the corner, and not to the middle. Roy/Lawson/Johnson Iggy/Roy/(Matthews) Batum/Gallinari/Green Green/Randolph/Gallinari (Oden)/Ibaka/Hawes/Randolph Mills/White/Oden Trade Matthews on Deecmber 15th for a pick or overseas prosepect 6. Fire our medical/training staff after the season.
