Today is a pretty big day ...season changing... franchise changing type day?

We find out about roys knee. MRI results. Question is.... will it be rest, minor surgery, or the dreaded .... micro fracture?

Either way Roy seEmed in good spirits on bench last night and amazingly was in uniform.

Its so whacky that I wouldn't be shocked if he plAyed Thursday or they said his season was over. Listening To Canzano yesterday... sounds like micro fracture is all but certain. Thats the vibe I was getting from radio.

Thoughts? you guys hear anything from MB, Wheels or anything on air last night? I had the fucking NBA TV broadcast with grizz announcers. That was painful.

 

It'll be interesting and perhaps important depending on what they find different from his last MRI in May. Micro fracture was not recommended by either Doc recently, so I have to have serious doubts that is the likely outcome, but we'll see.

 

We already know Roy's knees are in really bad shape, so what does it really matter what the MRI says? If it says he needs surgery then Roy will never be the same player. If it says he doesn't need surgery then Roy will never be the same player.

 

even roy at 50% helps us. did you see our bench last night? it might be the worse bench in the nba with wesley starting.

 

I don't think an MRI can reveal much if there is little meniscus left (maybe a cartilage tear, and that would be devastating, but not very likely).

An arthroscope would reveal much more.

 

out big problem off the bench is a backup C, when Joel and hopefully Oden are back this becomes a strength as opposed to a glaring weakness.

 

how can one have a cartilage tear (meniscus kind) if there is little or none left? Now the articular cartilage may have become more seriously damaged or inflamed, maybe we will find that out.

 

Ya, I was referring to the surrounding cartilage. The way he injured and limped off the floor was reminiscent to Mike Redd when he tore off his ACL (which again, is probably not happened).

 

It won't be nearly as dramatic as some people think

 

I'm assuming death, and anything short of that will be a positive for me.

 

So I am in the obvious minority, but I believe that if MF will build the missing meniscus, then lets get the damn surgery over. Technology has advanced, and Brandon could have a near full recovery. Sure, it will be 2013 before he would be 100%, but it still gives us hope. Look how well Amar'e has performed once he fully recovered.

Really, the big question in my mind about MF is if it really could build enough meniscus to matter. If it can't, which has been said by some, then dreading MF is unnecessary because it wouldn't occur.

 

LOL I'm expecting nothing earth shattering and probably something like Roy has to simply deal with and try to manage it. That is not necessarily a good thing but it is what it is.

I feel Brandon will be fine, might not be immediate, but I think he will come back and will still be a very good player, maybe not the super-star he was as often as he was, but I think he will be fine. I have no real basis to have this assumption, but there is no real basis for the doom and gloom that goes around - so...

Time will tell.

 

He collects his max contract without playing for only 3 years? Gilbert Arenas just heard and is scrambling to keep his record.

 

MF will not build any meniscus, it builds some tiny thin cartildge on the end of the actual bone similar to a small layer of tread on a tire. The meniscus is a much thicker pad between the bones. Once meniscus is gone you can never add it back.

Medical procedures have advanced greatly but we're not talking about having Roy at a level where he can live day to day life without issues or perform an active sporting activity on a few weekends; we're talking about trying to return him to a level of performance to be one of the top basketball players on the planet.

 

Well, it sucks but you either take a chance on helping Roy regain his former ability set, or you let him waste the rest of his career as a very average shooting guard. I'll take the high risk, high reward route myself. After all, it's Paul Allen's money, not mine.

 

I tore my ACL and it hurt like fucking hell. I was on the floor cursing in pain, my knee swole up twice the size and I couldn't walk on it. Roy tweaked his knee, which could have caused some damage, but he most defeinetely did not tear his ACL.

 

Thank you for the clarification, I was unaware of that. I just know a bunch of posters on here are throwing around MF as an option, and dreading it. I simply think you provide your franchise player any treatment necessary, and hope they regain their previous form.

I know a young woman who claims to know Roy's wife, or people who know Roy's wife, and she told me they are casually considering retirement. Frankly, I'm calling bravo sierra on the whole story, but that option has been whispered around. If his career as a premier guard is over, I'd rather see him medically retire so his salary falls off our cap. But again, I think it's all shenanigans.

 

Meniscus transplant is definitely something that can be done

Also - if the outer rim is available - re-growth can be done via implant and about 6 months of careful monitoring.

Hopefully it does not need to happen for Roy, but if there is a lockout next year...

I am going to repeat what I said in a different thread - they put artificial hearts in people... the meniscus is nothing as vital as a heart, it's a big rubber-washer...

 

I'll wait to hear the results before I pull out my internet MD degree.
