After Hendrix, Jeff Beck is probably my #1 guitar hero, followed by Grant Green,Joe Pass and Buddy Guy.

It's a bass. But it's also space. Can something be both bass and space?

Steve Howe, though Steve Morse is right there with him. Beck is obviously an amazing talent; his work with Jan Hammer is among my favorite.

Drums? Palmer, Peart, Moon, in my lifetime.

Bass? Squire, Geddy Lee, Entwhistle. Underrated is McCartney - consider for his time how great he was, and his work then would still be considered amazing today. The bassist for Boston is pretty amazing as well.

Keyboards? Emerson and then everyone else. Among everyone else, Wakeman. And yeah, I'm basically saying Yes might have been the most talented band ever. The old Genesis is close. Dixie Dreggs were all talented as well.

Slightly different topic. Sammy Hagar is an extremely good guitarist. When he joined Van Halen, he didn't play guitar for them. I think it speaks to how great Eddie is as a guitarist, though it could also speak to Van Halen being a band that requires a front man (no instrument). I think the former.

Can't argue with any of your picks. I'd have to add Jaco Pastorius, Bootsy Collins, Charles Mingus and Stanley Clarke to the bass list and Buddy Rich and John Bonham to the drums list. Oh and Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington Vince Guaraldi and the guy who played the music for Mr. Rodger's Neighborhood (I'm serious) to the keys list.

    I saw Charlie Daniels twice.

Once at the University of Illinois... The audience was all wearing cowboy hats and big belts and the show was quite good.

The second time we drove from Chicago suburbs to Merillville Indiana to see him. The audience was VERY different. They were wearing white collar type shirts (like you wear with a suit) and undershirts beneath. The first half of the show, it was his typical show, much like the first one I saw. Then they had intermission and after that the curtains opened up and there was a black choir and the second half of the show was gospel music. It was amazing in its own right.

Yeah, it was pretty awesome. Anyhow, I was really scratching my head about the guys wearing the mormon looking clothes and the lack of any cowboy hats and boots and big belt buckles, etc. Until after the intermission. Bible belt.

A sort of E Street Band rip off, but a great tune, IMO.
