I believe this means we have a roughly 3.8 million dollar injury exception, once approved by the league, to find a replacement, through signing or trade. Wonder if we make use of that.
I would hope so. I'm not counting heavily on Joel giving a lot of minutes and Camby & LA need a lot of help.
I don't really know who's out there who could help us. Perhaps Dampier, but other teams have already passed on him, so there has to be a reason he's still available.
I am not ready to give up on this season. Yes, there is a close to zero chance of us winning a championship with Roy not being 100% and Oden being out. However, there are alot of things other players need to do this year and I am going to be happy watching them. LA, Batum, Rudy, Armon, and Dante have to step up. Having players that are already proven in Miller, Camby, and Pryz helps this. Adding another with an exception would be a plus.
Another option is using the exception to take someone another team doesn't want on their salary, at the priceof a first round pick, the way OKC did with Kurt Thomas a few years back.
Hmm, can we do that? I wasn't aware we could. Interesting. I'd rep you for this post, but I have to spread some more rep around.
Yeah, it says we can use it in trade as well. So say, I dunno, Utah was 2 million over the LT, and desperately wanted to get under. We take CJ Miles and their first. Give them a future second. Or something. Just using those players and team as an example. Or, even if a team was way over, but wanted to save money. At 3.8 million, if you took a 3 million dollar player from their team, with the LT, it's a savings of 6 million. When most firsts go for 3, I can see a team going for that, potentially.
You got all of that out me saying "whoopdee damn doo?" My only point is that a 3-4 million dollar injury execption isn't likely to yield much value.
Injured player exception is really hard to get. The Blazers got one last season, but I think it was only after the roster was decimated by a number of injuries.
Maybe not. Maybe we don't use it. Maybe we can get a first round pick out of it. Maybe we can get a fill in player. I don't think anyone expects the exception to replace Oden's potential, but it's an option available to us and worth discussing.
That's different. There is a roster exception, which we got lat season, when you have only like 9 healthy players. Then, there is this DPE, which is to help with signing a new player's salary to replace the injured one, for teams over the cap. It is what houston used to sign Ariza, when Yao was ruled out for the season. They got a DPE for the MLE amount.
I think the league won't grant any exception unless those two spots were filled and the players injured.
Right. This is a different exception. One is for roster spots. One is for salary. The former, we used last season, as did GS. the latter is what I quoted in the OP.
RR7, do you know if it can be combined with a player in a trade, or is it like TE, in that it can only be traded on its own? Ya, I believe we applied for one for RLEC, but I can't recall if we ever got it.
