i was watching game 7 of the 1970 nba finals with the knicks and the lakers and i noticed how the game was so much different than today. i never knew that at the begining of each quarter they had a jump ball instead of inbounding the ball in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters. also every personal foul regardless if you're shooting or not was a free throw, instead of having 4 fouls and then the penalty of 2 free throws. i didn't notice it but eventually i realized after every foul a guy was at the foul line for a free throw. did any of you guys know this?
I knew about the jump ball and I agree with it There should be a jump ball to begin every quarter. As far as the foul shots go that is a stupid rule. That makes the game so much longer than it needs to be.

Yao would obviously win it every team. It gives teams' unfair advantages. It is fine the way it is set up now.

Yeah I think it's much better the way it is now, I could just imagine how frustrating it would be to watch a Heat game when the opposing team would just foul Shaq the entire game so he could shoot FT, regardless if they were in the penalty or if it was during a shot.
Good thing these rules changed. Shaq attack as mentioned would be crazy... unfair to players who lack the free throw technique. Plus as CB4 said, people shorter would never get first possesion. Maybe if theyre lucky.I knew about the jump ball, the NBA has changed a lot over the years. When will the rules be perfected?
People will go for the more athletic, higher jumpers, as in Amare, when it comes to drafts. But, it would add a new flare to the game if they added it back.
