Does anyone understand what exactly is meant by his knee being stronger after the MF surgery and what that has to do with anything taking place now? I sure don't. How does repairing cartilage make the knee stronger? That would seem to be bone terminology, and any gains there are probably just due to him allegedly eating healthier.

Agreed. I see no reason to give on Oden. He can lose some weight, become more mobile and take a bit of a load off his 75 year old knees.

From what I understand the cartilage isn't repaired it is replaced with a harder scar tissue that acts to protect the bone and joint similar to the way the cartilage does. The knee isn't really stronger, it's just harder to knock off the new scar tissue.

Why is it that's not reassuring?

Also the only way Oden could truly make his bones stronger would be to rehab on a planet with stronger gravity.

Scientific studies show that MF surgery has a higher success rate than amputation when it comes to high-level athletes coming back to play at a high-level. ;)

I'm glad. There's currently no real risk to holding onto him, so they may as well. Getting rid of him as some sort of psychic, emotional release would be irrational.

As long as he can hit the 3 he'll always have a spot on a Nate McMilian team.

I had a feeling you are just a screen name for a Blazers insider.

While I have you on the line, Mr. Cho, can you slip us a clue about your intentions as far as using the expiring in a trade?

I never really knew how to feel about Larry Miller but this is the kind of leadership and loyalty i think can trickle down in a positive way. Good Job Larry:cheers:

What's to explain? Cho (correctly) made it clear that they weren't going to just automatically extend Oden - he had to prove himself.

If Miller is just trying to make the kid feel better - fine. If he is serious, he is cutting Cho off at the knees for no good reason.

Sorry, but it always seems like fans are willing to give one more chance, and one more chance, etc. The dude just keeps getting hurt. It's like Blazer fans are the kid that won't believe his parents are Santa Claus...

Parent: Son, I don't know how to say this, but I'm Santa Claus.

    Son: That's not true.

Parent: No, really... there's no Santa Claus. He's not real.

Son: Sorry, not true. Who brings me all those toys?

Parent: Me. I bring those toys.

Son: Who is the guy who is at the mall dressed as Santa and taking requests?

Parent: That's just a dude in a suit with a fake beard.

Son: How about all the movies? All the stories?

Parent: Not true. Made up. Used to make money.

Son: Sorry, I don't believe you. He's real.

Parent: No, seriously, you asked for a PS3 this year.... it's in the basement. I can go get it.

Son: I don't care what you say. He's real.

Do you have any actual analysis, though, as to how giving Oden the QO will hurt the team, if Allen is willing to spend that money?

I mean, I get that some fans are disillusioned and venting with some mix of condescension and sarcasm, but actual reasoning would also go a long way.

I am no longer expecting big things from Oden, but I'm also not interested in cutting him loose as some kind of emotional carthasis. If retaining Oden will hurt the franchise's present or future prospects, I'm open to the argument that he should be cut loose. If no such harm exists, I'd rather just hang onto him as some sort of NBA lottery ticket.

And if the team fails to make any meaningful moves because they are trapped in wait-and-see mode with Oden, would that convince you?
