The guys who do that during the whole game offense and defense, they are not many. And I want to be this kind of player, who does his job in defense and who can bring offensively. But even if Monty Williams is gone, there's now McMillan who makes remarks immediately when I did not defend enough. Sometimes a tap on the hand with an eye that means "come on, now please you're going" is enough to understand. And then there are games like Oklahoma that we've lost in overtime, where I wasn't really in offense mode, the goal was just to defend on Durant. I had played 47 minutes on 53, I was KO after that. Batum seems like a genuine nice guy. Considering how young he was when he lost his dad it sounds like his mom did a great job raising him. He has the attitude and drive to become a special player.
If Nic become even 80% as good as Pippen he will be an all-star. Now, all Portland needs to do is convince Pippen to work with Batum in the offseason to give him the little tricks that are hard to see when watching tape.

It's interesting to read about the shift in his mentality with Webs and Outlaw no longer sharing the minutes with him. he seems almost more focused and like he's owning the responsibility more. Good stuff.

Batum's intelligence shines through the translation. Every word is about basketball. Look at the long sentences. Pick one out at random. He writes better than half the people on this board. Can you find another NBA player's blog that starts a sentence with "moreover"? Compare to Oden's blog (childish), in which Oden tells what he did yesterday, naming the cartoon shows and video games. Or Bayless (moral), with brief pithy politically correct statements. Or Gilbert Arenas (ego), laughing that he will score 50 on the Blazers.
