    Signing with heat.

Just filed to ESPN.com: Heat target Dampier as top choice to replace Haslem and could complete Damp signing this week. Link on the way

And the local sports host here just said the Heat have discussed Camby wih Blazers.
He said word is, that if and when the blazers realize they are out of the playoffs... camby to heat for 1st rounder. why do i feel like theres some legs on this one. this season just gets more morbid by the moment.

If they get Camby we should at least be able to sign Dampier instead of them. :D Why would we want a low-lottery pick from Miami? :ghoti:

The team would save $15m+. That's nothing to sneeze at.

It would be depressing, but not indefensible, if the Blazers moved Camby for draft pics.

Of course... with the Heat, in particular, what salary would we be able to take back?

Portland should jump on that anyway. I am all for Portland making the playoffs of course, but I am in the "not serious contenders" corner. Why not ship Marcus out to a contending team and get yet another 1st rounder we could use to possibly upgrade with some youth?

Unless there is a 3rd team involved, I don't see how it could get done

3 picks in the first round and expiring contracts might be enough to get a pretty damn good young player.

Camby is our only healthy center. We don't know what kind of player Przybilla is now after his two patellar ruptures. Greg is perpetually rehabbing a knee. It would signal a rebuild, IMO.

Camby is 36 years old, and injury prone himself. I don't think it would signal anything else but trading an old player for an asset.

Uhm, Miami gave 2 picks, I believe, to Toronto. And 2 to Cleveland. And picks can't be in successive years. So let's assume 2011-Toronto, 2013-Cleveland, 2015, Toronto, 2017, Cleveland. So, no, it's not 3 picks in the first round for us this season. It's looking at a first in 2019. Awesome return. And who does Miami have salary wise to complete that deal? They have no big expiring deals. In order to get something to work, they'd need to move 2 guys, Mike Miller(long contract, no thanks) and someone else, Anthony, Haslem. I don't see how this deal fits, and the pick, I don't see that working out for us.

Outside the big-3 they have the worst collection of 'talent' I've seen since the 2004 Blazers.

Sorry, we might be able to get their 2017, they gave one of their own picks to Toronto, and then Toronto's own pick. So 2011 tro Toronto, 2013 and 15 to Cleveland. So Camby for 2017? Doubt it/.

If the team really does get to the point where the playoffs are looking like a longshot, then carrying a player like Camby is a luxury -- highly compensated 35+ year old players belong on contenders, not teams in the throes of a retool/rebuild (Miller falls under this category too).

Since when does, "could complete Damp signing this week" equate to "gone"?

As others have pointed out, there's no way the Heat could move picks of their own for Camby, nor is there any advantage to the Blazers to do so. As far as I can see, there's no reason to assume the Blazers won't make the playoffs this year.

If Haslem is out for the season, they could have an exception coming to them...

That's not going to help them land Camby, though.

I have no idea how much he is making. I suppose it's not enough.

    +1

That was the first thing that hit my mind.

I realize that with Roy's entering into a sort of semi retirement roster spot and Oden being questionable for future duty, we need good young players to rebuild the team, but maybe they can come from a bit higher in the draft.
