Cam Newton of Auburn, Andrew Luck of Stanford and Kellen Moore of Boise State are the finalists for the Maxwell Award, which goes to the best player in college football, and the Davey O'Brien Award, which honors the top quarterback.

The finalists for several college football awards were announced Monday.

Finalists for the Bednarik Award, which goes to the best defensive player, are Clemson end Da'Quan Bowers, Auburn tackle Nick Fairley and LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson.

The Doak Walker Award finalists for best running back are Oregon's LaMichael James, Wisconsin's John Clay and Oklahoma State's Kendall Hunter.

The finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, which goes to the top receiver, are Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma's Ryan Broyles and South Carolina's Alshon Jeffrey.

If we voted today, Cam Newton as far as on field product goes, should be going home with the Heisman, Maxwell, and Davey O'brien awards. The guy has just had an amazing, amazing year. 2,038 yards passing, 21 Touchdown passes, just 6 interceptions 1,297 yards rushing, 17 rushing touchdowns, the guy has even caught a touchdown pass. 39 total touchdowns on the season is unreal. The entire Auburn offense revolves around Cam Newton, and he has delivered an undefeated season thus far. Now this is obviously a bit premature, because he does have two games left and if he really slips up any of these awards can be for someone else. That said, I'm looking at him for all three right now.

The Doak Walker award, is there really any other runningback in the country performing like LaMichael James has? In only 9 games over 1400 yards, and 17 touchdowns. Given those 2 more games, and this guy easily has more touchdowns than anyone else in the nation, and possibly more rushing yards. On a side note, can we write in and ask for Denard Robinson to get put onto this award? Over 200 rush attempts, 14 touchdowns, and leading the nation in rushing yards.

The award that should be the biggest run away of them all though, is easily, the Biletnikoff Award. Justin Blackman has more receiving yards, receiving yards per game and touchdowns than any other receiver in the nation. The guy has easily out performed everyone else so far.
