We sure as hell need something, and he's been playing pretty well this season... Against Euroleague competition, in 22mins p/game he scores 14.3 points, shoots 67.3% from the field and 80.0% from the line, and grabs 6.3 rbs.
Pretty sure the answer is "no." He's under contract with Unicaja for three more years after this season. (Depending on the buyout clause, we could possibly get him sooner, but definitely not this season). Pretty much.
As I understood it, the Blazers helped write his latest contract with Unicaja Malaga specifically for an easy exit... I don't know what the timing issues are, though. I think he could have come over prior to the beginning of this season, and my guess is that he might have come had we known then what we know now about Greg's situation. I think he was concerned about sitting on the bench back then, and I can only speculate that things might be different now...
Don't we have to sign him to a first round deal (three years guaranteed)? Perhaps if we were competing, but we're looking like a first round exit in the playoffs this year.
Here's a Blazersedge article on Freeland: http://www.blazersedge.com/2009/7/28/966931/the-latest-on-joel-freeland
I think Freeland is off the Portland radar since that article was done in 2009. I just don't see him coming to the states when theres others for Portland to look at in this summers draft.
