Honestly I think a motion offense would even help Roy. It takes some time to get use to it but in the end it would keep defenses from keying on him. Nic, LMA and Mathews would all flourish under that system. Unfortunately it will take firing Nate to get this accomplished.

Just throwing it out there if you want a motion offense then Eddie Jordan is your guy. He runs the Princeton offense.

He runs an offense similar to the Princeton offense. The thing about that is its nice to have good passing big men, its predicated on high post passing. Camby would be good for that system, but Aldridge would be awful. Roy Hibbert and Greg Monroe would thrive as they have been successful in college running that offense. I think only Monroe would be available though.

    Yeah, it's pretty similar.

Here's Eddie Jordan breaking it down to the basics

Batum got off to a great start this year. He was knocking down open 3s and I believe his PER was hovering around 19 (now it's down to 15.8). Why? Teams were still focused on stopping the Roy ISO, same as last year. More defensive attention on Roy meant less on Batum.

This was before our opponents knew that the new Roy is not the same as the old Roy. When Roy missed those games and word got out that he had lost his quickness and explosiveness, defenses adjusted, but here's a surprise, our offense hasn't. Batum's role hasn't changed, but he's getting fewer wide open shots now that Roy has become more of a jump shooter than someone that drives hard to the basket and commands more defensive attention and kicks out to the open 3-point shooters.

Seriously, in Nate's offense, what IS Batum's role. Does he have one? If so, what is it? Do they EVER run any plays for him? They did on opening night when he posted up Nash (I guess Nate finally figured that one out - too bad it was six months too late), but I haven't seen them run any designed plays for Nic since.

Um, Princeton's offense under Pete Carrill had a glacial pace. I'd pay to see this board after 30 games of Eddie Jordan's offense. The Princeton offense also requires good shooters, which the Blazers don't have at this point.

The Wizards weren't particularly slow with Jordan at the controls when they had Gil, Butler and Jamison.

Nic is averaging 13 ppg and is getting the 3rd most shots/36 on the team for the rotation players. I find it incredulous that people would infer that Batum does not have a role on the offense. Batum has been given more opportunities this season than the previous two years; that he can't handle the load is not Nate's fault, is it?

It definitely takes the right players to run it, as does any offense. It's a great offense to watch though as the Kings demonstrated in the early 2000's.

As stated in the youtube clip I provided Carill is the one who taught Jordan the Princeton offense.

I was just throwing it out there because people want more motion and less ISO's.

Hey, I agree with your take. It's just that the Blazers don't have the roster to effectively run that offense right now. I too loved watching the Kings in the early 2000s. They never made an NBA Finals, though, and they had Chris Webber, Peja, Vlade, and Mike Bibby in their prime. That was a great offensive team for running that offense, and it still wasn't enough to even get out of the Western Conference Playoffs.

This joke is getting bigger by the day, as is Nate's Coaching ability. McMillan really does look like he's got his whole head up Brandon Roy's butt. If he kissed it any more, he'd be kissing the inside of his naval.

So, Nate thinks that a guy who has no meniscus in either knee is offering "energy" and "scrappiness".

Cho needs to grow a pair and step into this mess, shut Roy down for the season (including playoffs), and let the players who should be playing the most get out on the floor. Nate clearly has no idea what the hell he's doing.

That's the only way this team could play with Roy in the lineup....and Roy needs to be playing no more than sub-minutes, too.

Nate's really proving to be a real suck-up to Brandon.

I get that feeling every time I read one of your posts. Roy still has a PER of 18.1.

1 team gets out of the Western Conference playoffs. The refs gift wrapped the Lakers that series, hardly any fault of the Kings.

This might be a good idea. People who complain about Batum not being aggressive or assertive enough...he will have plenty of chances if he's with the bench unit. Playing with Roy/Aldridge/Miller, it's not surprising he isn't assertive.

But that's not his game. Why a lot of us really like Nic is because he can play with stars and make them better by helping to space the floor, keeping defenses honest, running the break, moving off the ball, and shouldering a large defensive load. He's a super complementary player. But this system hinders pretty much everything that he's good at, and only magnifies his seemingly lackadaisical attitude.

He will not play well in the Travis role that Nate wants. This is just a horrible misuse of Nic's talents, and a pathetic evaluation by Nate on Nic's game.

Oh and I didn't mention, he's one of the smartest players on the floor with this team. Guys like Tayshaun have raved about how controlled, efficient, and intelligent he is, but putting him on the bench now as a "scorer," is only going to make him a chucker.
