You're not the most self-aware guy around, eh?

I suppose I could spam the board with lengthy rants based solely in opinion. It's my opinion that the Corvallis "arson" could be an inside job. It has happened before, as I provided proof toward. As for the guy on the cut/paste spree, I'm really not interested in your cut/pastes.

Maybe this will be easier for you to comprehend...

Maybe because you never read what actually happened? Or your blinders are still on? Or what? The only inside job I know of [9/11] created this whole "War on Terror" propaganda machine in the first place. Hello, McFly!

The FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s office are investigating as a potential hate crime an arson fire that damaged part of a Corvallis mosque...People at the scene said it appeared that the fire might have started from someone throwing a glass full of a flammable liquid through the window.

...you just needed to be more specific, seeing as there was more than one "Y2K Bomb Plot" in 1999 [not to mention, I was a freshman in college at the time and current events was an extremely low priority]:

FBI arrests militia members for alleged bomb plot

But goddamn, it is a good thing that us American Idiots keep sacrificing our liberties for security, our Founding Fathers would be so proud of people like you!

    Yes.

    No.

Ending those two wars doesn't fix anything. "Forgive and forget" isn't exactly the thought process in the Middle East. These are people that still, to this day, see world events through the lens of the freaking crusades. Anger and resentment for the wars in Iraq and (and less so) Afghanistan will live on forever, in almost all Middle Easterners, not just the extremists.

And besides, this whole terrorism mess isn't about Iraq and Afghanistan. It's been going on for a long time. The Middle East is in a bad way right now, and it is going to hell in a hand basket when the oil runs out. What we're seeing right now in terms of extremism isn't about American imperialism or even Israeli-Palestine (but those issues make great talking points for extremists to garner public sympathy.) It's just a natural result of a once mighty empire crumbling. Power-hungry people will always be there to fill the void.

As far as terrorism on American soil, I think that our perception of terrorism has changed, which results from (and in) increased media coverage. It's like school shootings in the 1990s. Overall, they were way down from the 70s and 80s, but we focused so much attention on them, they seemed like they were a huge problem.

I don't think that's why. Our freedom of privacy was going to be lost anyway, but when terrorism is used as an excuse (by those taking it away) it enables them to do so publicly. Otherwise, it would have been done so privately. Doing it publicly acclimates people to it (you can already see that in this very thread), gets them used to the idea of being watched and that being o.k. (reality TV, youtube, social networking are also good examples of this.) It had to be done publicly, or it wouldn't have had the intended effect, which is to gradually change the culture.

Oh, and is anyone else having trouble not cringing every time BGrantFan and HAAK72 get into a little tiff? Yeesh.

OS students are holding a "vigil" outside of the Corvallis mosque right now to show their tolerance after the alleged hate crime that somehow only burned an office and not the actual prayer area.

...are you still neglecting to read how the fire was started? Have you ever tried to burn down any free-standing buildings before? One molotav cocktail sure as hell won't do enough damage...especially with a fire station right down the street.

Yes. They're basically there just to satisfy their own white guilt (not all of them being white...maybe "american guilt" or "apologists" is a better word for it). If this was for a Christian incident or other religion BESIDES the Religion of Peace, none of this shit would be happening. Its a bunch of self-righteous hippie fucks.

It seems the local media and government are more concerned with apologizing to Islam and Somalis rather than stopping terror attacks.

It's about trying to show that we are above the level of the Somali kid that could only resort to violence. What's the use in torching a mosque for the actions of one individual? Why let that slide if someone from your community did that? Stop painting everyone as a crude caricature.
