The amount of problems surrounding this team last year seemed like an aberration. I think a lot of people expected it to go away to some degree this year, not for it to get even worse. Morale is just dead. It's like watching a TV show where things get bad, and you say, "Wow, that's awful. Hopefully they'll get some retribution at the end of this season." And this follows, and they say "Okay, now this is just ridiculous. I don't think I can suspend my belief much longer for this amount of continuing horror, let alone watch even more shit come knocking them down." And then the Ducks' success is a distraction. Yes, fans are jumping ship. Surprisingly, because it seems there's so much to talk about when you have so many strong opinions around here who know everything there is to know about assembling a perfect basketball team and righting the ship.
Yeah, I'd ditto the majority of non-hostile posts in here. A combination of injury sadness, forum negativity, RL distractions and Duck excitement has really reduced my Blazer post counts this year. I still follow every game, rain or shine, but lately the phrase "bone on bone" just makes me want to crawl under the covers with my FM radio and sob quietly as Wheels describes the latest on-court tragedy. I certainly have lost interest in dealing with all the smug "realists" who apparently predicted these injuries 10 years ago...
He questioned mine. I just wanted to send the message he's not the only one who has been a fan since Day One.
A fan is also happy when we succeed. We've had a lot of success over the past few years. You're never happy. That's not being a fan; it's being whiny.
I've been a fan since I was probably 4 years old, or atleast as long as I can remember. I was drawn to the entertainment of sports at a very early age. When other kids were playing lego's I was organizing my baseball and basketball cards. I watch, or listen to every game with just as much excitement as the next, or the last. I follow the team religiously, I tuned in to every single win during the 21 win season. I feel if I want to raise my concerns about the team, or bash the coach who I'm not a huge fan of, or bring up our overrated PF's weaknesses, I have every right. I'll be here rain, or shine. I'll still think every draft pick is an up and coming all-star until I'm proven otherwise. I still think at the beginning of the season we'll go 82-0, until I'm proven otherwise. Some people need calm down and not act like we have to be blowing sunshine up each others ass on daily basis in order to be a 'true fan'.
A) I disagree with your point of view, but I never questioned your fandom. B) Once again, you are being very selective. Last season, when the team was often "winning ugly", how often was I the guy who said "there is no such thing as a bad win." There were people who turned game threads into a bitch fest even when the team won - but I sure as hell wasn't one of them.
I have not seen a single post from you where it appears you derive any positive enjoyment from this franchise. You appear to be one of those sad people who only are truly happy when they're bitching.
Agreed. However, the contest to see who can more cynically denounce any news we receive is not the answer. That is what we have here. Right here, right now. The [/MB] picture posts, the Ass Clown name calling, the scoffing, the laughing out loud at an all-player meeting. That the team recognizes their problems and is concerned is met with a resounding jeer. It's a race to the bottom, seriously. You are as guilty as anyone of this, so I'd invite you to tone it down, and quit calling the least bit of optimism "blowing sunshine up our asses" -- it's that kind of polarizing language that eliminates any middle ground.
I think your mistaken. I'm one of the biggest optimists in this joint. For someone that is so nit-picky about how people should be a "fan" around here, you sure don't post much. When you do, it has something to do with clueing people into how they should act as a fan. Bring something different to the board if you want it to be rainbows and butterflies all the time.
Whatever. I understand your anger about the team - I am just not sure why you are directing it at me.
I have tried, and recently too, to walk my talk because people said the same thing: post better and better posts will follow. But there doesn't seem to be a market for my style of posts: http://sportstwo.com/threads/174443-Moving-Forward-(or-Going-To-War-With-The-Team-We-Have) http://sportstwo.com/threads/172268-Is-Aldridge-Really-a-Terrible-Rebounder?p=2441998#post2441998 http://sportstwo.com/threads/172134...is-there-a-problem-here?p=2441269#post2441269 http://sportstwo.com/threads/172134...is-there-a-problem-here?p=2441340#post2441340 There's more, and I used to do a lot more of this type of post, where I consider things and write a considered post after thinking about it, but what's the point when all I get back is sarcasm and nitpicking about how many threads there are on the forum? Much better to become a character, to grouse about not drafting Chris Paul or something at any opportunity, rather than attempt any semblance of substance here.
Lol very funny. Nah I just meant Minstrel totally bailed on you guys! And I used to think you had something, but it is ok a lot of franchises rebuild. :O
The unfortunate (from my perspective, but not necessarily from everyone's) reality is that internet forums are more of a competitive form of debate (like a less rigorous, less rules-based debate club in high school) rather than a discussion-oriented medium. Exceptions abound, of course, but the vast majority of internet debate is about winning the debate or shutting down your opponent, in my experience. And I have certainly been a part of that in my internet life but I've tried to move further and further away from it. That's why there's less market for the type of posts you like. Unless you establish a very small forum composed entirely of friends, you won't get that. Any large forum will end up a competitive striving. You just have to decide whether that's worth it to you to get different opinions and share your thoughts with lots of people you wouldn't normally have access to.
