Bulls forward Luol Deng will get a bit of a break once Carlos Boozer returns from his broken hand.

Chicago coach Tom Thibodeau plans to insert Boozer directly into the starting lineup when he returns, while moving Taj Gibson to the bench.

Over the entire season, Deng is averaging 39.7 minutes, third-most in the league behind Kevin Durant and Rudy Gay.

"I don't think anything changes in terms of how we're going to play, style of play," Thibodeau said.

"It adds a quality big man and gives us more depth up front. Right now, Luol has probably played more minutes than we would like. He's played a lot of four for us. I do like Luol at the four, but it will allow us to get Luol more rest."

    OK .

Now that we have had a good look at this team this is how I would like to see the minutes shake down with everyone healthy and with cobwebs blown off

    Noah ( 34 ) Boozer ( 4 ) Asik ( 10 )
    Boozer ( 30 ) Gibson ( 18 )
    Deng ( 32 ) Korver ( 16 )
    Brewer ( 26 ) Korver ( 10 ) Watson ( 12 )
    Rose ( 36 ) Watson ( 12 )

There's Coach Thibs 9 man rotation with Kurt Thomas to be phased in for Asik on the 2nd road trip in early Feb to get him ready for the playoffs

With Korver , Brewer and Gibson's minutes eaten into around about the same time to get Scalabrine ready like Kurt Thomas

And where Watson will also have his 2 guard minutes eaten into in the 2nd half of the season for Keith Bogans

JJ and Omer will be kept as practise players / developing talent reserves

LOL. I can see it now - Thomas, Bogans, Scalabrine, Rose, and Noah leading us through the playoffs!

No I don't think they will , but irrespective of what you or I think about them comparatively to other players , they are veterans that have deep playoff / championship experience - although I don't think Bogans was with the Spurs when they won but I think Kurt Thomas may have been

I don't see them playing big minutes or myabe not even at all for the large part of the playoffs ...but Thibs at some point will call on them and its better that they have some recent match experience under the belt to keep the rust away

Hence, tis why I see them rounding into some minutes to the slight detriment of the others ( and therefore keeping their miles down ) for the benefit of a deep playoff run which I do believe has to be the target

Gibson's going to be getting much more than 18 minutes.

Well he really shouldn't for a couple of key reasons

    1. Boozer or Taj playing Center minutes is a really bad idea although I can live with Boozer playing short spot minutes there - and no I don't want to hear about Boozer playing big Center minutes in Utah. There's a reason Utah fell way short in the playoffs last season and this was a large part of the reason why IMO

    2. Asik is already the equal pick and roll defender to what Gibson is and has better shotblocking ability and is a more natural shot disruptor given his length. He needs consistentt short minutes to develop and give us a legitimate Center to spell our other Legitimate Center

18 minutes a night at the Power Forward spot is about right for who and what Taj is - a high quality 7th man / Insurance policy backing up your Allstar 20 and 10 PF Stud signing on a nightly basis , or admirably playing his starter's minutes if gets injured and being able to do it a high level

There is no way though that Noah and Boozer's minutes should get chopped at say 34 a night downwards just to make way for an inferior talent / impact player

And the balance 10 minuttes that Taj could play ....we need to develop our 4th big who is already the equal of Taj defensively and potentially a bigger impact than him defensively if we're committed to giving him the 10 to 12 minuttes per game he needs for us to get the rewards he can bring

Boozer shouldn't be getting any C minutes. His defense and rebounding aren't as good as Taj's. I don't really want see Taj getting C minutes either. Noah and Asik should be more than capable of playing the whole game. And either Boozer or Taj at C means Deng is probably at PF, which I think should be stopped, too.

We saw Noah get 0 rebounds going up against a very strong physical C. His rebounding and size isn't as good as Boozer's in some match ups.

Are you really saying that you think Boozer would have done a better job against Howard than Noah?

Boozer didn't have a 0 rebound game for Utah last season.

Yes, I think he would have done a better job, but that doesn't mean Noah couldn't be out there guarding Rashard Lewis.

I keep forgetting that you don't actually watch the games very often. And then you remind me.

I have NBALP and have seen all but one game this season. You keep being wrong, but if you were right you wouldn't be the bullshooter we all know and love.
