For the second time in just over seven months, Montreal Canadiens defenceman Andrei Markov will be on operating table.

This time, the all-star blueliner will face a surgeon’s scalpel in Birmingham, Alabama, for the second major repair of his right knee since early last May.

The Canadiens announced late Friday afternoon that Markov will be operated on by James Andrews, a surgeon famous for his work in the repair of damaged ligaments, on Wednesday.

It is expected the 31-year-old Russian will miss the remainder of the season.

The surgery will repair the meniscus and reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in Markov’s right knee.
