look to retool/rebuild it's time to start thinking about it. I keep thinking about PGOTF (PG of the future), one guy I like a lot and think is gettable is Maynor from OKC, he'll always be behind Westbrook. I'd like to see us go after him. Long term PG and C for me is where I'd concentrate. IMO Miller-Przy-Oden-Camby all should be looked at for trades now as 3 of those 4 almost for sure won't be here past this yr or a strike shortened next. I would trade Roy for expirings but that is likely no doable IMO because of his albatross contract. Lets the games begin
I looked through the entire league hoping to find a superstar or all star that might be available by the trade deadline. There really isn't much out there besides Carmello. Unfortunately Carmello isn't coming here. Who is left out there that we could potentially get? Discouraging looking through the lineups I don't see much out there that would really turn this team around. Our hopes still fall on Roy, Oden and LMA. It'd be nice to add another great young player but I just see any out there to get. I'd use Miller, Pryz, Camby and pieces to get someone like Verajo and a good young PG (Brooks long shot).
I don't think we go after superstars here, the one available does not want us and frankly we don't really have the pieces, We have to accept what is and look to trade pieces who won't be here after this yr and next and some find guys who can help us.
maynor?????? thats almost comical. do we need another jump shooter who cant finish with avg defense? we have aarmon johnson already. was this serious?????
To trade for a big name player, who could save the season/future (so to speak), the team has to have players worth trading. Not sure they do right now.
What teams that can compete would want camby? Okc is or that comes to mind however I doubt we trade with them.
Jameer nelson for dre miller Magic are better without Jameer but he'd be a good fit with Portland. Gets magic a great half court point with Howard. Maybe add rudy and whatever to get jj reddick x
Here's a RADICAL idea: Essentially: Portland sends out Roy and Camby (who is at least 55, in case you've forgotten) and get back Iguodala and Gortat. Why would Orlando do it? Because they get Roy! He's not what he used to be, but he's a very good shooter, and he's almost certainly more productive than Hedo when they had him last. And they might think that's what would separate them from the Heat and the Celtics. Why would Philly do it? Um - to dump salary? Because they want to offload Iggy? So Evan Turner can get more PT? Why would we do it? Because we would become a defensive POWERHOUSE. Imagine playing a lineup of Johnson, Matthews, Iggy, Batum and Aldridge, and pressing full court. And to reunite the two Andres. We would essentially HAVE to run. Tell Nate he has to set up a system like the Sonics when he played for Karl. Iggy isn't a superstar, but he's like a poor man's Drexler on offense and a moderately wealthy man's Pippen on defense, and that's pretty damn good. I thought that he as much as anyone set the tone on the US team this Summer. He's a beast on D, and wouldn't it be nice to excel at least on ONE end of the court? [Edit: I see that the Cavs' trade exception from LBJ was mentioned in that piece I linked to. That suggests a more depressing trade: Roy straight up to the Cavs. That would give us a trade exception of our own, which is valuable, and which we could use to acquire Iggy, perhaps (which would be less depressing). The Cavs might consider this just because Gilbert is insane and proud and might not want to rebuild immediately after promising that the Cavs would win a title before LeBron would. And maybe they haven't heard about Roy's knees, or maybe the Cleveland Clinic has amazing knee treatments...
Good question. It might have to be a team that gets him as a salary dump and is ready to buy him out. (San Antonio might be interested, as their defense has actually slipped this year.)
it's funny to see these guys knockin Maynor when they back it up with squat. Here an interesting read on his stats from an OKC writer, yeah it's biased, but can't argue with his rookie numbers http://www.dailythunder.com/2010/05/necessary-development-eric-maynor/
