Well, since it was peacetime for England and 6+ years removed from WWII, it seemed like peacetime to me. Also, I knew those dates from memory- not Wikipedia. And in fact, if you read up on his second administration, you will note it was one of statesmanship and not war activity.
Nonetheless, Churchill became a world statesman during those years. He was desperate to prove he was more than just a great war time leader, and overall he accomplished that. To me, he was one of the 5 great statesmen of the 20th century.

As most British leaders were, he was an unapologetic racist who, like Hitler, tied a man's worth to his bloodline. Yes, but he was the Prime Minister when the country still needed a lot of rebuilding after the war. There is not doubt he was one of our greatest leaders but it comes down to the time(s) he was elected, in my opinion.
