Open tryouts calling for welterweights and middleweights for The Ultimate Fighter 13 were held in November. The upcoming season of TUF is expected to start filming in the early new year but the coaches for the show have not yet been announced. The latest rumour is that the UFC will take advantage of the blooming feud between suspended middleweight contender Chael Sonnen and PRIDE and UFC veteran Wanderlei Silva.
I've been looking forward to Wand coaching on TUF for years and Sonnen seems like the perfect foil. Hope this rumour is true.
Possible coaching teams: Chael Sonnen, Matt Lindland, Robert Follis, Heath Simms, Fabiano Scherner Wanderlei Silva, Demian Maia, Rafael Cordeiro, Cristiano Marcello, Mike Whitehead
I don't see how Wanderlei can win against Chael. Sonnen should get him down easily, no? Unless Wandy really trains his BJJ, I think he gets laid on for 15 minutes.
Re: Simms; depends if he wants the publicity I guess. As for their fight, yeah, Chael would probably wrestle him to a living death.
I don't get this match making. I really think Wanderlei/Leben makes more sense in terms of marketing and excitement.
A Sonnen vs Wanderlei matchup doesn't really excite me as much as a Wanderlei vs Leben. But Leben is really TUF coach material. To be honest I dont even know why Sonnen and Wandy would even fight except for the fact that they exchanged a few words in a van once. Wandy hasn't exactly been tearing it up his last few fights so a victory wouldn't really put him in line for a title shot. I'd actually like to see a TUF featuring Shogun and Evans. Given Shogun something to do while rehabbing perhaps..although that might be unrealistic because he would have to train if he was on TUF.
Chris Leben really isn't fit to be a role model to anyone. I can't envision the guys looking up to him as an example of anything but what not to do.
