It happens. I have 3 kids, and at some point, in some stores, they get away. It's literally as quick as you turning your head for a second.
I try not to keep charge of small babies. Or pets. I can't take care of them, I'd lose them pretty easily and unlike these irresponsible guardians, I can admit it. You have a baby or small child you are looking after, you do not let it out of your sight. Especially a 2 year old. You don't let that kid run around a store unattended while you shop. What, was that 99 cent bottle of laundry detergent more important than a child? Its just like the parents who lost sight of their kid at the lakers game and he fell to his death. Obviously they don't have as much culpability as the rapist, but they do have some.
Its annoying when little kids are running around and fucking shit up. Parents need to either leave them at home or keep them to themselves.

I suspect it's more likely the fact that you live in the midst of the country's most concentrated area of crazies and white trash, southern California. I've noticed no such difference in the shoppers between various Oregon stores.
Who knows. Its the same everywhere. At cheaper stores, there seems to be more miserable customers in general. At least in my experience. I worked at Nordstroms, all the customers were really nice. At Meier and Frank, they were always complaining and haggling about coupons and mismarked items. Go to Ross Dress for Less, it looks like the reject line at the DMV.

So you think that the death penalty should be doled out on crimes based on emotional impact? The law is cut and dried, not open for interpretation or emotional influence. I believe the death penalty should be used only when a perpetrator has killed someone else.
