    Hello darkness, my old friend
*laugh* Okay. :) I thought he played well last year, too. I guess we have the competing dynamics of Miller playing well (even a little better this season) but also getting older.

As blazerboy said, I'd be happy to trade him if Portland got some impressive swag back for him. But not just to dump him.

I didn't say I'd just dump him. I'd use his value in a trade to get someone younger who can shoot. If that's not possible, I'd like to see him lead the second unit off of the bench and start the "big" line-up for a week or two to see what happens.

This discussion is pretty silly and just a rehash of all the other PapaG-created anti-Miller threads.

    Fun stuff.

Where the fuck do you come up with this shit. You obviously just make it up and hope no one notices. Miller has the 6th highest USG% on the team. He trails Roy, Aldridge, Mathews, and our other two PGs. Good god, check your facts once in a while rather than making up random shit to support your incorrect conclusions.

Miller also has a very respectable AST% of 36.3. I don't know where you get this idiotic idea that Miller is a ballhog. The stats (the REAL ones, not the ones you pull out of your ass) certainly don't support your conclusion.

Seriously? I don't believe this shit. Do you actually believe it, or are you just trolling?

You just bagged on Miller for his "team leading" USG% of 21.1 and you want to replace him with a guy that has a USG% of 28.7 - which is far higher than anyone on the Blazers (Roy = 24.4). You're also constantly bashing Miller for his "poor" shooting and now want to replace him with a guy with a much lower TS% (.503 vs. .528). And finally, you bag on Kevin Love for putting up big numbers on a bad team and constantly use his team's poor record to justify your opinion. So, now you want to bring in a guy putting up worse stats on a worse team (7-14) to replace Andre Miller as our starting PG. Yeah, that makes sense and isn't at all inconsistent.

PapaG is right to bag on Miller's shooting and wanting to replace him with Mo Williams to fix the problem.

Mo Williams is a very good 3pt shooter, Miller isn't. It's that simple. Williams demands a defender on him/run at him when he has the ball behind the 3pt line while teams give Miller 5 feet of space when he has the ball behind the 3pt line and won't even bother closing out on him. There's a huge difference between the two in their shooting abilities and TS% won't tell you that.

One big reason why the Blazers were so successful 2 years ago is because they had the guys to space floor who were good 3pt shooters. The Blazers were 4th that year in 3pt% and they were 12th in attempts. Nate McMillan isn't lying when he says the players just aren't hitting shots this year. As of right now they're 24th in the league in 3pt%. That's bad. Bringing in Mo Williams would create a ton of space for players like Roy and Aldridge while adding another 3pt threat to the team.

Nice theory. Too bad the data doesn't support your conclusion. Mo Williams has a 0.291 3FG%. And, this is your solutiuon to our shooting woes?

I take it you watched the game last night? If you did, you realize atleast 6-8 of those points by Aldridge came via free throws under the 1 minute mark. Stat padding at its finest.

But, your boy Aldridge who is a 16 PER on the same losing team, is making $11 mil per and its quite the bargain.

Yeah. I looked it up after I made the post and realized my error. I just didn't really care enough to go back and amend that one detail. Thanks for yet another pedantic and anger-laced dissertation, though. I hope it made you feel better.

Gee, and what is missing from Cleveland this year compared to Mo's 40% years? Oh yeah, an offensive player who can drive the lane and open up three point shooters.

Did you even think before you posted this?

Yeah. Aldridge is having a down year, and the team is suffering. Matthews and Miller are playing "well", yet the team is under .500.

So just like that you're going to discount the fact that he's a career 39% 3pt shooter based on 16 games? Really? Really? Hmm.

His average the last two years is 43% in a role that he would play here in Portland. That tells me a lot more this the first 16 games of this season.

Getting a PG who is primarily a 3 point shooter was a good idea, say, last year. But, Roy doesn't command the attention on defense that he used to and teams don't close in on him like they used to, thus less open jumpers.

We seriously shouldn't be in the business of catering to a SG who's knees are shot unless he can prove he still has explosiveness. Which, I personally doubt, as much as I wish that he did.

When looking to make the team better, we need to look at best possible players. Not players that can co-exist with what Roy wants to do. Because, its a good possibility that Roy's days an All-Star caliber player are numbered.

Aldridge isn't too far off from his career PER #'s. What will it take for you to realize that Aldridge isn't this good PF that you think he is?

Those are good points, but Wesley Matthews has also shown the ability to get to the rim. Having a PG who shot-puts the ball from 20' diminishes Matthews' and Roy's (on a good knee night) greatest offensive strength. I just don't see the point in having Miller on the team. This season may end up with a 7th or 8th seed, but that seems about the ceiling at this point. May as well try and use a valuable trading asset to look for a more long-term answer.

Steve Blake is primarily a 3pt shooter. Mo Williams isn't. He's just a good scorer while also averaging 5 assists a game. He's a good player and is only 27. That alone is a good fit.

Now, Roy isn't the only player I mentioned. I also mentioned Aldridge who gets doubled all the time. Roy still does as well. And when they're on the court with Miller and Miller doesn't have the ball it's almost like playing 4v5. Teams help off Miller all the time and it prohibits the Blazers offense from being able to space the defense out. It's been a problem from day 1 and still is. Miller not being a 3pt threat hurts.

...and that answer is Mo Williams?

I don't think we'd be any better with Williams, heck I think it'd be a downgrade.

Yeah, I did. Too bad that player is in Miami. We sure don't have anyone like that in Portland to make Mo Williams an all-star.

And gee, maybe that's why our team 3FG% is down. The Brandon Roy we have now isn't the same player he was two years ago. He doesn't command nearly the same defensive attention he did two years ago, and he drives the lane a lot less to create open looks for his teammates. Roy's APG and AST% have both completely fallen off a cliff. He is not, and never will be again, the same player he was.

So, without a legitmate superstar to ceate open looks for him, is Mo Williams and his crappy shooting and ballhogging USG% really the answer to our problems? Sure doesn't seem like it, does it?
