After a lot of speculation I had of Mariota possible being moved to WR I highly doubt it now with the senior season he had. He might be better even better than Randall.
Thanks, MM. I know nothing about him except what you can read on scout or rivals. He's big and fast, 6'6"/230 and plays TE/DE. Lots of room for more mass on his frame. He turned down Wisconsin, ND, Nebraska and others for Oregon. He's tall and quick - 4.5/40. I've heard fans say he was projected as a TE and even WR in Oregon's spread, but nothing concrete. Wouldn't be surprised to see a kid with his size and speed move to LB either. His measurements remind me of a former OLB Duck great, Scott Kozak, who had a nice NFL career. Welcome to Oregon, Christian!
A lot of fans on the Iowa and ND boards are saying his hands are nothing special. It could be bitterness talking, but if so, he would make a great DE or OLB
http://rivals.yahoo.com/oregon/foot...ench-106845;_ylt=Aiu9i4amnG8Ppns7Un8xrA0itZB4 the locals were saying the same thing before he declared for Oregon so there is probably some truth it. But while ND wanted him as a LB, Iowa did recruit him as a WR so... my own guess is that he could probably play DJ Davis's physical blocking receiver role pretty well but if his hands prove too faulty he could be switched to D like Dion Jordan. Regardless, dude's athleticism jumps out during his tape.... he can really really run for someone 6'5 215. I also saw the video of him announcing and he seemed bright and humble and received a huge ovation on his announcement from his HS despite not declaring for the local school. Another one of rivals top 100 players comes on board (#96) just an awesome pickup STOMP
Man, if I were Chip I'd be using this month and our natty as a recruiting weapon of mass destruction.
an interview with Christian earlier this fall that lends some insight STOMP
Here's an article on his commitment and a video of him announcing as well as him explaining why he chose Oregon. http://iowaprepsports.com/featured/2010/12/09/kennedy’s-christian-french-commits-to-oregon
Personally, I appreciate what the locals say. But, think this through... How much do we, as Duck fans, love the local kids that make it to play in Autzen? For years, message boards have been used in an attempt to influence recruiting. Players can be overly touted or dissed - depending on best interests. This doesn't mention that roughly 99% of the people with an opinion on players have never even seen them play, LOL. I guess my point is...sure, if locals are saying his hands are bricks, lets discuss, but if our staff is going after a player - he's probably the perfect fit for the position - regardless of what the locals are saying. Go Ducks!!
gotta agree there... if he was that bad I'm sure Rivals wouldnt have him as a 4* and Oregon wouldnt just be offering some crap kid a free education. I'm sure the same is with Iowa and ND.
Which wouldn't be a bad thing. I don't know if I could take another Jaison "50/50" Williams dropping balls all over the field. So frustrating...
scratch Bigelow from any Oregon consideration. Committed to Cal http://oregon.scout.com/a.z?s=128&p=8&c=1&nid=4332662
scout also has Farmer as a USC commit. Cant say I'm surprised though. http://oregon.scout.com/a.z?s=128&p=8&c=1&nid=3788227 edit- Rivals still has him as uncommitted. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-George-Farmer-81098
