"For a guy who was raving mad about 24 hours earlier, Rip Hamilton seemed pretty calm before Wednesday night's game against the Hornets.

For the third time this season, Hamilton was ejected after picking up two quick technical fouls Tuesday night in the loss at Houston.

Although he admitted he has to do a better job of keeping his composure, Hamilton told Fox Sports Detroit that the NBA's emphasis on player comportment is the main reason for his quick hooks this season. He explained that in previous years you could talk to officials after getting techs, but now players get tossed for continuing dialogue.

But that explanation rings hollow for those who perceive the 12-year veteran as not being there for his teammates. Hamilton was tossed late in the first half, and the Pistons already were shorthanded because Charlie Villanueva was away attending to personal business.

"We can't afford to lose him anymore in a game because we need him to stay in the game," coach John Kuester. "We were shorthanded without Charlie of course and then you get in situations where you have to have more bodies (available). ... He's a veteran. He knows what the game is all about."
