I read that this morning and nearly spit my milk through my nose. Funniest thing ever IMO.

I'd be pissed if I finally spent money on a player, and that player immediately went into the tank after signing the deal.

Davis signed the exact same deal that LMA signed (5 years/$65 million), fwiw.

In theory, there is nothing wrong with this. He pays Davis as if he's an employee, so he reserves the right to get on his ass, but it just looks so unprofessional.

Another thing, though is that Davis seems completely dejected right now. Would a change of scenery (say, to POR) make him revert to his GS self?

I dunno. Calling an employee "out of shape" could be considered harassment, couldn't it? It would be funny if Davis filed a workplace claim. ;)

So should we expect Paul Allen to start heckling Brandon Roy soon? Cause he went into the tank as soon as he signed his huge contract

Roy had an All-Star season last year and was 3rd-team Al-NBA. What the fuck are you talking about?

Roy's big contract started this year. He was still playing under his old contract last year

It is totally unprofessional to call out an employee publicly, whatever the job. If you have an issue, call him/her to your office and discuss the matter, or talk to the person's immediate supervisor. Unless you really want to destroy everyone's morale and make yourself hated. There are some bosses who think that's good management. It is, short term, since most of us want to avoid humiliation. But then people start looking for other jobs. Of course, a person under contract is a different matter, but nothing on earth could then keep Davis from publicly demanding a trade. And frankly, this would be one time I'd be on the side of the player demanding trade.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Not when it's (part of) your job to be in shape. ;)

And while I think Sterling is a dope, and this is a stupid thing for him to do, it's still hilarious. I have little to no sympathy for Davis (from everything I've read, Davis doesn't even attempt to stay in shape), even though Sterling also looks like a fool here.

He signed his "big contract" extension prior to last season and still had an All-Star and All-NBA season. He knew he was going to be rich, yet he still played at an All-Star level. Comparing him to Baron Davis is hilarious, considering Davis had a PER of 14.5 after signing his contract, and Roy had a PER of 21.3 after signing his contract extension.

Sounds like Sterling is playing to the crowd.

As dumb as his actions may appear, he was smart enough to pick an unsympathetic target. A good chunk of the fan base probably loves to see a lazy, overpaid, and over-rated player called out. Heck, it is kind of a truism that Clips' fans don't even go to games to root for their own team - they only go to watch the stars on the other team!

I think it is more just him being pissed for spending that money and having no way of getting it back. This is the same guy that has tried not paying just about everyone in his organization and tried having assistant coaches taping ankles to avoid paying for a trainer. While Elgin Baylor's draft record speaks for itself, Sterling still tried to stiff him after unceremoniously dumping him after years of service.

Baron could be a useful player again, but not with the Clippers. Hopefully Blake Griffin has enough sense to take the QO at the end of his rookie season and then go somewhere else.

Has anybody thought about that he might just be a mean spirited old man who enjoys belittling those around him? Maybe he brings players here just so he can make their life misery while making money off of them through the NBA revenue sharing system.

This is not new. Three years ago, I sat court side center cour right next to Sterling for a Blazers/Clippers game. The whole game he was saying "You suck, Dunleavy! You're a loser! You've always been a loser!" and when Maggette missed a shot at the end that basically blew their chance to get back into it, Sterling yelled "Loser!" and left. I wrote a whole post about it to you guys but then my partner convinced me to not post it, saying Sterling was a powerful guy and I shouldn't be going after him. Now that this already out, it seems safer to mention.

Remember when Olowokandi used to yell at Sterling, who was in the stands, about how he wanted an extension? Sterling was thinking, yeah right.

Remember when Shaq used to yell at the Dentist guy who owns the Lakers, Whats His Name, oh yeah Buss, who was in the stands, about how he wanted an extension? Buss was thinking, just for that, you're out of here.

If attendance goes down around the league, Stern might tell owners to start jeering their own teams to amp up the fans.
