Due to circumstances beyond my control, didn't end up getting to go with the wife, so I'm using the ticket I have and am going in January. Using points for the (Equus) hotel in Honolulu. At this point, not renting a car. Just taking a shuttle from the airport to the hotel. Plan on renting a moped whenever I need to get out of town. Upon looking at a numper of entertainment options, I'm pretty set on doing these activities: Catamaran: http://www.sailmakani.com/ht/index.html Glider: http://www.honolulusoaring.com/index.html Snorkeling: http://www.co.honolulu.hi.us/parks/facility/hanaumabay/information.htm Views/Pictures: http://www.hawaiiweb.com/html/national_memorial_cemetery_of_the_pacific.html http://www.hawaii.edu/lyonarboretum/ Food: http://www.dksteakhouse.com/index.html http://www.kahalaresort.com/dining/plumeria-beach-house.cfm http://www.yardhouse.com/default.aspx http://bigcitydinerhawaii.com/ http://www.dukeswaikiki.com/ (Barefoot Bar) http://www.chuckshawaii.com/cellarmenu.html (Live Jazz) http://www.outriggerreef-onthebeach.com/resort-experience/dining-and-entertainment.cfm (Steaks/View) http://moosemcgillycuddys.com/ (Happy Hour) http://www.harborpubpizza.com/Welcome_to_Harbor_Pub_Pizza.html (Pizza next to the hotel) NFL Conference Finals: http://www.snappersbar.com/ Any other thoughts/recommendations are always appreciated. Going solo? Its kind sucks you can't stay in Waikiki, its so much easier to do everything if you're there. Lots of walking, etc. You can get a shuttle to Haunama Bay. There are a bunch of vendors in waikiki offering pickup, its pretty inexpensive actually. I enjoyed the booze cruise in front of Duke's. $25, all you can drink and then 2 hours or so on the catamaran. Food at Dukes actually sucks pretty bad, but the drinking and music is why to go, especially on a Sunday afternoon. Kayaking at Kailua is pretty awesome. My favorite places to eat are the Rainbow Drive-In and Side Street Inn. There's a side street inn near ala moana, kind of a bar ish setting..great food but best for sharing. See if you can get a brunch rez at the Orchids at the Halekulani. They book way in advance.
Yep, solo. The hotel is located on Ala Moana right next to the Ala Moana Beach Park. How close is that to Waikiki? http://equushotel.com/
Maybe a 10-15 minute walk to the main part of everything? It just sucks to have to do that every day. I just like the hustle and bustle of waikiki and going in and out. Cabs are pretty easy though and they probably have a trolley pickup pretty close.
yeah, tons of hookers in waikiki. pretty hot too of all varieties, they go there for the japanese tourists I think. mainly on Kuhio...but they go on the corner across from the Moana Surfrider starting at 930 or 10pm until the late night/early morning!* Get it ABM! *or so I've herrrd.
Or, to save money, hit the bars at 1AM and find some skank. Granted, you have a better chance of getting clap, but that's what penicillin is for.
Favorite beach on Oahu is Lanikai in Kailua. Its about 20 minutes from Waikiki but again, there are shuttle services that can take you there. Canoeing is fun but tiring. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanikai_Beach This is the one I did. Pretty sweet, you see Sea Turtles. Beach is beautiful. Lots of women still in the area. http://www.kailuasailboards.com/kayaking.html
I'm really looking forward to the glider. Just the wind whispering by while I snap away with the telephoto.................. 20 minutes for 115 bucks. Rather steep. Hope the shots/experience are worth it. http://www.honolulusoaring.com/index.html
It's kinda funny. A couple of weeks ago I placed an ad on the Honolulu Craigslist wanting to hook-up with someone to show me around the city, perhaps hook-up for dinner, etc. I had even attached a picture of myself. This is one of the responses I received back:
Agree . . . most beautiful beach on the main island. Kyak or canoe out to chinaman's hat . . .beautiful (and a decent workout)
I'm guessing $1500/day gets you her company (and fringe benefits). I say strap her on and go gliding . . .
Appears to be spam. I should have mentioned that in my first post. She then sent this link. I'm afraid to click on it!! http://snipurl.com/1556ar
Nah. Usually just go there and when i'm done wth the beach I want to go sleep at my hotel. Usually grab a sandwhich here. really good shit. http://www.yelp.com/biz/kalapawai-cafe-and-deli-kailua and this is a clothes store but has some good shave ice: http://www.islandsnow.com/news.asp
