Batum has guarded everybody from Steve Nash to Kobe Bryant this season. My eyes tell me he is the best defensive player on the roster, followed by a grouping of Matthews/LMA/Camby.
I have to. I mean he has potential to be a great defender, don't get me wrong. But, he's not consistent enough. I also think a lot of people (nobody in general) confuse good help defense with good man-to-man defense. Without a doubt Batum and Camby are the best help defenders on the team. Matthews, for me, is easily the best man-to-man defender.
Hey, I think that they are both solid defenders. You asked for opinions on who is the "best" defender. I've watched Nic for 2+ years play good defense. Maybe that helps put him at the top of the list for me.
That's a pretty good point. In fact he's the sole reason why Miami keeps losing to Boston. But things should improve.
The answer is obvious: Nate. It's awfully hard to hold an NBA team to 10-15 points in a quarter game after game, yet Nate does it consistently with the Blazers.
