The injury exception is valid until 12/30. No matter how we all Blazer fans differ on who is to blame for this season, it is obvious (or should be) to us all that this team is going nowhere fast as it is constructed right now. Trading Bayless has obviously been a disaster, since now that Roy is hurt, there is basically no one that can create a good shot for himself, but I'll give that a pass since Rich was so new to the job. So, Rich ... how about you start banging the phones, feed the computers those advanced statistics, and make a deal utilizing some favorable expiring contracts (Miller/Przy) in one deal, and the injury exception (Carl Landry?) in another deal.
we cant trade miller and unless you wanna see more marks... we cant trade pryz. cho needs to be creative with the draft picks, injury exceptions, and our crappy players like cunningham, johnson and mills
Those are tough trades. Trade Miller when we have no PG of the future in sight. Trade Joel when he could be the best backup defensive center in the NBA over the next few years. That takes some serious planning and I don't think that's allowed by Vulcan.
Miller needs to go, and that is a compliment toward him. He's worth more in a trade than anyone on the roster right now. Leave it to Cho to wait until Miller finally gets hurt or something, though, and completely wreck his trade value.
I'm not sure why any of you think they'll actually do any trades. The players they can trade (Joel, Miller and Marcus) are pretty much the only things that hold the team together. I think the team has to just bite the big one with Roy. Unless he can play consistently, he should be shut down for an extended time. It's so amazing how this franchise continually gets fucked over with injuries, throughout almost their whole existence.
I thought Dec 30th was the deadline to apply for the trade exception, which we've already done and been accepted, but that we have until the trading deadline in Feb to use it.
I agree with this, but Miller and Przy are basically worthless after this season in terms of the future of the team. Miller won't have his option picked up, and Przy is a UFA. If, by some act of Flying Spaghetti Monster, Miller or Przy want to return to Portland, then that could be addressed this summer. Do you see this team making the playoffs?
i think they will be in playoff hunt all year.... but if we dont get another scorer... no way we get in over grizz, houston, and suns. the 8 seed will need to be 43-39
Why do you say that? He's having his usual excellent season, so it isn't as if he's in decline. I can understand the team trading him if they can get something shiny back for him, but if no good trade presents itself, it seems like a much better idea to pick up his option. Once again he'll be an expiring contract and the team retains a good player.
No idea when the deadline is to pick his option up is but there will be no NBA season next year which just makes Miller one year older without having played for a full season. Not exactly a player I'd want to acquire in the 2012-2013 season. That's why I'd try and trade Camby also. Their value probably won't be any higher than it is right now. In fact it could get much lower depending on the CBA.
Can't be any worse than Sean Marks http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/70565/20101213/grizzlies_shopping_thabeet_hard/
Sometime in June, I believe. If they don't have a better point guard or a well-regarded point guard prospect by that time, I'd much rather have a one year older Miller around than nothing, considering his still-high level of play. He'd be on a one year deal, so the financial risk to the team would be minimal.
