If this is "holding it" together, then it's definitely time to make major trades.

OK, that does make sense. Andre just has never proven to be worth much of anything as a PG on a very good NBA team. The idea when he signed his contract was that he could fill a void that Steve Blake could not fill. Due largely to injury of other players, and due in a lesser manner to his own shortcomings in terms of defensive ability and shooting the ball to make up for injuries, I think an argument could be made that he will be overpaid at age 35 next season at $7 million. If nothing presents itself, I still may be tempted to let Miller walk. I think that Pritchard basically bid against himself when he signed Miller, but you know that already.

What's the choice? Hover at .500 and miss the playoff AND get a crappy draft pick with Andre?

I'd rather trade him, stink it up and get a good top 10 pick to get a legit prospect to build to the future with.

I shudder to think of how many more games we would have won had we kept Bayless.

You're risking that he'd still be playing at the level he is right now. And who knows what the new CBA looks like and how that could change everything.

If the Blazers aren't serious contenders they should just get rid of him imo, same with Camby. As constructed it's still a playoff team imo but they obviously won't compete for a championship.

He's having his usual "barely get a low seed in the playoffs if we're lucky" season. Not that it is completely Miller's fault, but it's a pattern at this point. Certainly can't be called causation, but it is definitely correlation. After watching him flail on defense and brick shots for over a year now, I think the book can be closed on Miller being the starting PG on an NBA championship team. At least as the starting PG making over the MLE.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I don't understand this sentence. Do you mean "You're hoping that he'd still be playing at the level he is right now?" Yes, that would be the hope. He might not, but even if he declines, he might still average. In any case, a one year deal isn't much of a risk.

It could. That's beyond my scope, though. Hopefully the Blazers have some people plugged in who have some idea, by June, where things are headed.

Well, as you know, I don't tend to evaluate individual players by how the team is doing. Wins and losses are team accomplishments and not within the control of any single player, as far as I'm concerned.

In the end with the state this team is in doesn't it just seem silly to take that kind of risk? I'd make sure to trade him this season but that's jmo.

Sorry, I missed it. Sadly, many of the posters around actually sound like that.

What risk? My opinion is a one year deal is a minimal risk.

Because you can't guarantee how a 36-year-old Andre Miller will look and how the CBA will look as well. Both could hurt his value.

With his numbers being great right now and the team looking like it needs to rebuild right now looks like the best time to trade him. No point in risking it as his value won't get any higher.

I will assume that you are assuming that no deals to get younger and better exist in relation to trading Miller. I will assume that I assume that holding on to Miller as he approaches age 35 means a great GM should be able to find a trading partner for him that makes sense for both teams.

I think you're misunderstanding my position. As I said earlier, if the team can trade Miller for something good...go for it. What I was questioning was the idea that the team won't pick up his option if he's not traded. If he's not traded, the team should definitely pick up the option rather than having him become a free agent. I'm not advocating turning down a good offer for Miller in order to bring him back next year.

I'm not assuming that. I was simply disagreeing with your contention that they wouldn't pick up his option if he were still here at the end of the season. For a re-stating of my position, see my post above to RoyToy.
