"The Astros made their deal with Ryan Rowland-Smith official, signing the lefthanded pitcher to a one-year deal worth $725,000 plus incentives.

Rowland-Smith's deal was finished more than 24 hours but was pending a physical.

The 27-year-old Australian was in his native country when he signed.

He comes to the Astros from the Seattle Mariners where he went 1-10 with a 6.75 ERA last season. Previously, he had three strong seasons as both a starter and reliever.

"We think that even though he had a rough season last year that he has a good arm and will be able to at least compete for a spot in the rotation," general manager Ed Wade said."
