With the Spurs losing to the Mavericks in the 2nd round in the playoffs this year, does that represent the end of the "mini-dynasty"? I'm not really sure about this, but here are some reasons why i think it could be the last time the Spurs get to the Conference Finals for a long, long, time. Now i'm not sayin they will be in the lottery for years to come, but that they wont be a top tier team in the Western Conference.1. Age is coming up on them2.Young teams coming of age in the WestThere are a ton of teams that have a brighter future than the Spurs. The Clippers, Lakers, Nuggets, Hornets, Rockets, Grizzilies, and the Jazz are all going to be in playoff contention next year. 3. 2 Teams that are betterThe Mavericks and the Suns are probably locks for the 1 and 2 seeds next year. The Mavericks arent losing any of thier top players anytime soon and have done a great job in the draft. The Suns had the 2 seed this past season even without Amare Stoudamire who is probably thier best overall player. I dont think the Mavs or Suns will be falling anytime soon. Now lets just look at this for a minute. I've listed 10 teams(including the Spurs) in playoff contention for next year that i think could make the playoffs. I think we all agree that the Mavs, Clippers, and Suns will be part of the elite next season. 1.Mavs2.Suns3.Clippers4.Grizzlies5.Nuggets???6.Lakers???7.Rockets????8.Hornets, Jazz, Spurs?????So i ask you, is it the end of a Spurs dominant Era?? For some reason, i think so.
I suppose so. But if most people believe that the Spurs are done with the titles, they need to realize you build a championship team with veterans. You need playoff experience on your roster if you want to advance to the Finals. Rookies dont have the patience to learn at first, and try to do too much. They also are lazy on defense. The Spurs need to try to get some young talent on their team, though. Hey, they might be mediocre for a couple of years if they do that, but it will eventually pay off for them in the long run.
I don't think the Spurs are finished at all. Anyone who just says, "Hey look, they only made it to the second round!" isn't looking at the whole picture. They lost to the Mavs, who should have been the second seed, since they have the second best record in the west. I'm not complaining, because that's the way the rules are, but it still changes the setup. The Spurs had to play the second best team in the west in the second round, rather than in the WCF. And when you think about it, they were less than a minute away from winning the championship again. Call me crazy, but I don't think the Suns or the Heat could beat the Spurs in a 7 game series. I think it's pretty ridiculous to say the Clippers are an elite team. Oh sure, they're a lot better than they were, and they took the Suns to 7 games. But so did the Lakers. Are they an elite team? I think it's absurd to mention "elite," "Clippers," and "Spurs" in the same sentence. They don't compare to the Spurs and won't for a couple years at least. And if you seriously think the Spurs will be an 8 seed or not in the playoffs at all next year, you are out of your mind. The only way the Spurs won't make it is if Tim Duncan and Tony Parker both get injured for the entire year. The only way they will not be an elite team next year is if those two aren't at least 75% come playoff time. In a few years they will be in trouble if they don't make a lot of moves for younger players, but not this coming year. They won't dominate, but they will be in it as always.
There never was a dynasty. You have to win back to back championship to be considered a dynasty like the lakers.
wow. only 5 guys in their twenties. I think the Spurs may have one or two years left in them after that they'll be lottery bound.
Their top 3 players are under 30 so they will be in the hunt but I don't think they'll win any more championship. Next year is probably their last chance unless they rebuild some good role players.
Their window of opportunity is still open, but barely. If they can somehow replace some of that age with youth and athleticism without losing a step in their winning ways, they obviously will still be a championship contender. Hell, they are are a championship contender anyway, but getting younger and more athletic allows them to match-up better with Dallas and gives them a better opportunity to defeat the Mavericks.Dallas and SA are the only two teams to be reckoned with in the West. I would definitely add Phoenix onto that list, but I just want to get a look at what type of player Amare will be after that knee surgery. The Clippers are a question mark in my mind. Yeah, they played well this season, but Sam Cassell probably won't be re-signed, and I don't believe the Clippers will be as good as they were this year if he is gone.
Their main core of Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Duncan are still young. You are right though, the rest of the team is getting old, and they are gonna have to re-build some pieces if they want to stay in contention.
NO! it's a beginning of new dynasty!!! Spurs will buy Javtokas! Spurs needs him. I saw him playing, one of the best centers in Europe.check this out:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTsnMFr7-g0&search=javtokas
The Spurs might not have been considered a dynasty, but I think that there time as a serious contender is ticking away with their age. They will contend next year, but I think to continue that trend, they will need to make some moves for younger guys.
What a surprise this topic was posted by a mavs fan, but as big as a spurs fan I am, I dont think there is an end to this dynasty because it never existed. 3 chips' in 7 years isnt a dynasty. Also, you can take Nazr Mohammed and Rasho off of the roster and put 6' 10'' Luis Scola who is 26, and like the other guy said Javtokas, because Scola is most likely going to join the team next year and Pop loves Javtokas, and the spurs #8 seed!?!?!? With Tim, Tony, and Manu all coming off of mostly injury an filled season the spurs will at least be a #3 seed.
If they don't have at least the third best record in the West then something's seriously wrong. Their window is closing, but they're still one of the best teams in the NBA.
