Lazy brought up on aim that we had worked Will Blalock. At first I was bewildered but after thinking about it, taking a backup pg would make the most sense. If we do resign Terry, and pair him with Harris in the backcourt. Our backup pg does take a hit, and a big one even more if Terry or Harris get hurt during the year. With guys like Griff, Daniels, Stack, Rawle who can step in at swing, I think taking a pg makes sense now. Also, we talked about Taj Gray, and he would be a nice choice in the 2nd round. Fits the up tempo style but also defends and rebounds. Has good size and attitude.
Daniels as backup Point guard? I think Daniels is fine for that position. If we lose Daniels also than it would be a hit.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Daniels as backup Point guard? I think Daniels is fine for that position. He's obviously not fine with that position as that is a glaring need for this offseason. Also, on topic, a couple of us were pining for Fernandez, has officially dropped out of this year's draft. So I'm hoping for Paul Mislap, Sergio Rodriquez in the first round.
Daniels may not be a great backup point guard but is respectable. Terry will not play only shooting guard so I don't think we need an extra point guard. 2 starting point guards and a backup 1/2 in Daniels is enough. Dallas probably would like an athletic big man at 3/4 so Dallas can go small without losing all their defense. A better version of Powell.

Also, your not counting in injuries. We need another pg.
If we were that desperate than Stackhouse can play point guard as well. I don't think it is a big deal to have a 4th string point guard. I am more concerned with having a backup PF that would be good in playing small ball against Phoenix without being a defensive liability like Van Horn. Gerald Wallace and Andrei Kirilenko are that type of player though I doubt Dallas gets ones that good.

Why are you suggesting Mavs are desperate when it is a need considering putting Stack at the pg, is just like playing Daniels at pg(as in not a good pg). Even more so our pgs are not even pgs. So yes a pg is needed. And 4th string? I for one do not expect DA to be ahead of whoever on the depth chart. He's not even guaranteed to be back. I already said backup pf, did you not read, that's one need of other needs. We have holes, not just one. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Gerald Wallace and Andrei Kirilenko are that type of player though I doubt Dallas gets ones that good.</div> I'm sorry but I don't see the importance of a swing man right now. Yeah, I'm not so sure about Daniels as a PG, but I'd like him to stay (as long as Avery will play him, dammit). I think it'd be nice to have another one. Personally I'd like to see Stack and Van Horn gone. Bring in a big PF/C and a PG, and we're money.

Dampier would be ineffective against the suns just like he has been the last 2 years so the mavs must find a player quick enough player to stay in front of Amare. Mbenga to me could be that player but we are likely losing him so we need that 3/4/5 that could do that. Daniels is fine at point guard and I'm sure Terry and Harris will will be at point guard 40-45 minutes a game so whatever Daniels brings at point guard is fine.
Is there a point guard in this draft that can pass and hit an open shot? I'll take a slight hit on defense if we can just get that. We need a shooter, but we also need a pure PG to back up Harris and Terry and initiate the offense. He'd be a bench player so his defense doesn't have to be there yet (let Avery develop it) but just in case Terry or Harris gets hurt we need another PG and also we need someone who can hit the open shot when Dirk's doubled. And Harris isn't going to do that.Really I think the most important thing next year for the Mavs is how Harris and Howard develop. If they can take their game to the next level and become viable night-to-night options, then we're going to be pretty damn good. They've shown flashes, so I think there's hope yet.
Update: according Hoopshype Mavs have worked out Will Blalock and are about to workout Jeremy Kelly Monday. Both are listed as pgs, just something to throw out there, as I already said something Mavs will likely pursue. http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_17694.shtml Great article about Kelly, we should really look at him hard with our 2nd rounder. Guy is flying under the radar, and it's no surprize were working him out. This guy can not only play pg(his natural position) but his big enough at 6'5 to play the shooting guard. This is something we need and to mention they say he a good outside shot. These two players are projected 2nd rounders, so I'm leaning with our first rounder being a big now. Paul Mislap is the guy I'm hoping for, other Mavs fans I've read would like PJ Tucker in the 1st round. So there is so many options in this draft, it's really great that Mavs will be able to get better through it.
I will always remember PJ Tucker for two things.1. His 1.1 GPA.2. When he dribbled out the shot clock against A&M.Stop me if I am being too anti-Longhorn, but I don't think we need a dumb player. That's just my opinion. I say just draft a PG in the second round.Edit: He is a good rebounder apparently, but we already have that. He only took four 3 pointers in his entire college career. We already have a completely innocuous perimeter point guard in Devin Harris.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Mavs brought in five players Friday to work out: Oklahoma's Taj Gray, Charlotte's Curtis Withers, Texas' Brad Buckman, Michigan State's Paul Davis and Damir Markota of Croatia. All are forwards except for Davis, who plays center.Don't read anything into the fact that the Mavericks had nothing but big men working out for them. They have used other days to bring in swingmen and smaller players, such as UT's P.J. Tucker.Paul Millsap, the Louisiana Tech forward who led the nation in rebounding three straight seasons, also is expected to work out.The Mavericks don't have glaring needs, although they could always use another reliable shooter, and they still don't have anybody on the team other than Erick Dampier who would be considered a banger."Decision-making, penetration, the ability to make shots ? all of those things are important," Nelson said. "If we see a two [shooting] guard that we like, there's a place for that."But as the team sits right now, there aren't any huge, major holes."Nelson added that the Mavericks are unlikely to deal the 28th pick unless something wild comes up. Because this is a relatively weak draft, many teams are looking to dump picks.</div> Blurb from the DMN. The one name I like is Paul Mislap and Joel Freeland, another pick expected to work out for us. I say either of those in the 1st would be fine with me, I'd take a gamble on this Kelly in the 2nd.
I think who Dallas drafts depends on a couple of things. First if Terry resigns, I am pretty sure he will. Then second if Avery is gonna go with Terry at the 2 next season. If that is the case they will need to draft a point guard. I also think they need an insided presence to back Dirk. There are a lot of good 4's in this draft and I believe this is a very deep draft. There will not be much of a difference talent wise say the 20-40th picks, so that is good for the Mavs. There will also be a lot of 1st round talents in the 2nd round. So overall I say they should draft a point and a 4.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>There will also be a lot of 1st round talents in the 2nd round. I say Joel Freeland, Steve Novak, or Kevin Pittsnogle But if Shawne Williams Drops to us snatch and Run
http://draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1374 Mavs trying to move up with trading Daniels, possibly with Utah. Anyone smell JJ Redick?
I see many things we can possibly do: We can go for a PG in the first round, move up with that Utah trade, or Draft a Van Horn replacement.. I'm leaning towards a PG. I think Avery is going to switch Terry to the 2 and put the offense into Crazy Harris's hands... Then if we're lucky we can draft a solid PF that can come off the bench to give Dirk a breather. I know this sounds crazy, but would drafting Gibson really be that bad? He would hopefully give is 3pt shooting shooting 38% in college. But if that Daniels trade holds any water, than thats a sure sign of not resigning Terry...

At 14, he would be a reach, the article mentioned Farmar worked out for us, which is a bit weird since he's slated to go before we pick by a good margin. But I don't see how Daniels being traded means Terry won't be resigned.
